On July 11th, PFC James Gonzalez told his family he was heading to Laredo to hang out with friends before returning to the Ft Hood.
But on July 13th Gonzalez' commander called looking for the private.
"They've asked what our thoughts are about him going AWOL. It just doesn't add up with the phone..it goes straight to voice mail. If he would have done it he would have contacted somebody," said Jason Gonzalez, who is James' brother.
The Gonzalez family says the FBI called them to say the Army had received a call saying the private had been kidnapped. The caller demanded $100,000 and the withdrawal of troops from the border. T the family hasn't heard anything from the army.
"We're just hoping that we get that phone call and that he's alive and well," said his brother.
Gonzalez joined the army a year and a half ago. Hhe was awaiting trial this fall on misdemeanor charges stemming from an argument with his girlfriend. His brother doesn't think that would have made his brother disappear.

the Army received a call demanding a $100,000 ransom and a demand that all soldiers be withdrawn from the U.S.-Mexico border.
About 575 National Guard troops remain on the border, but the thousands that had been patrolling the area withdrew last year.

One of the FOX news guys got a little carried away and said that there were “575 THOUSAND National Guard troops” on the border!

Victoria Marshall reports from the scene where a U.S. soldier reported to have been kidnapped was arrested by Laredo police following a traffic stop.
A 24-year-old soldier from Robstown who allegedly went missing after a trip to Laredo is now in custody this morning.
Although the man’s family claimed he was kidnapped in Nuevo Laredo, police say that was not the case.
He was arrested overnight by Laredo police.
We have the exclusive.
This is exclusive video from the scene Wednesday night as private first class James Gonzalez was arrested in north Laredo at the corner of Saint James and Weatherwood in the Del Mar C subdivision.
Laredo police confirm that they were assisting the FBI in doing surveillance on Gonzalez for the past day and a half.
Officials say he was likely hiding out at a house in the north Laredo subdivision although they have not released the exact location of the residence.
Pro 8 News confirmed on Tuesday that CID the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command was looking into the soldier’s disappearance.
They were also exploring the possibility that the soldier had gone AWOL.
Earlier in the week the soldier’s family claimed Army commanders received a call saying Gonzalez had been kidnapped and were asking for one hundred thousand dollars in ransom money for his quick return.
Laredo police say they tried to pull Gonzales over for a traffic violation Wednesday night but he refused to stop.
They were eventually able to apprehend Gonzalez.
Police say he’s facing charges in Nueces County for assault, and interfering with a 911 call.
Well have the latest on the story coming up later today on Pro 8 News at noon.
