They'll be exempt from state laws with respect to campaign contributions that they relieve for the federal elections - which is the subject matter we're discussing.

No. Actually it is not what we are discussing. We are discussing whether she violated laws relating to accepting private donations to pay her legal debts. This is exactly what the Slickster did.

Last time. Bill didn't live in Alaska, he wasn't the sitting governor of the state of Alaska (nor any other kind of Alaskan elected official) and as such, he wasn't bound by Alaskan state laws regarding the establishment of his legal defense fund.

Palin, unfortunately, is a resident of Alaska, she is the sitting governor and as such, she is bound by Alaska state laws and ethics rules. As I said to another poster, the AK laws that control and regulate legal defense funds for sitting politicians are poorly written if not contradictory. But, they are what they are.

Any comparison to Clinton's legal defense funds (or any other federal office hold or another state's officer holders) is pure folly, legally speaking.
