Flag on the Moon Written by Fraser Cain
When the NASA astronauts first landed on the Moon, they left a few items on the surface to commemorate their visit. These items included a plaque, mission badges and an American flag. If you've ever seen images or video of the flag on the Moon, you might have a few questions.
Why does the flag stand straight out and not just slump down? Here on Earth, flags are pushed out by the wind. Obviously, there's no wind on the Moon, so what's holding the flag up? The answer is pretty easy. There's a rod, sort of the like a curtain rod running across the top. So the flag on the Moon is being held out by the rod and isn't blowing in the wind.
What makes the flag flap if there's no wind? You might have also see a few videos of the flag on the Moon waving back and forth. This happened when the astronauts first planted the flag. There's no wind to make the flag to flag, but there's also no wind to stop it from moving back and forth. When the astronauts planted the flag on the Moon, they couldn't help but give it a sideways push. Without the wind resistance the flag would experience on the Earth, the flag can flap back and forth a few times before finally settling down. That's why it looks like it's flapping, even though there's no wind.
There's another scene where the flag flaps, as the lunar ascent module is taking off. In this case, the exhaust from the rocket is blasting the flag and causing it to flap back and forth. In the case of Apollo 11, the exhaust blast was so strong that the flag actually fell over. Later missions kept the flag much further away from the ascent rocket.
Apparently, Whoopie has been hangin’ too long with congresswoman Sheila Jackson Fleas. ... I though Whoopie was smarter than that, but there ya go.
The Mythbusters did a moon special and busted all the moon landing deniers claims. One of their better shows.
But Whoopi knows it's a hoax--because she's the one who cut the green cheese.

The conspiracy theory that the Apollo moon landings were a hoax, fake in a studio somewhere, has its first Hollywood celebrity proponent. According to Debbie Schlussel, Whoopi Goldberg announced her doubts on July 20th airing of The View.
“But you knew that some celebrity would use the TV airwaves to put forth the loony conspiracy theories that it never happened. And, predictably, that loon is Whoopi Goldberg, resident Communist of ABC’s “The View,” who revealed herself a Moon Landing Truther on
Moon Landing Conspiracy Theories and Whoopi Goldberg this morning’s show of the hour-long waste of TV air. Yup, she’s an Apollo 11 Truther.”
It seems that Whoopi Goldberg actually cited the film Capricorn One, which depicted the faking of the first Mars landing, to buttress her belief. Oddly enough, Barbara Walters and not Elisabeth Hasselbeck was obliged to step in and inform Whoopi Goldberg of the error of her thinking.
Whoopi Goldberg must have also been thinking of her stint as an alien on the series Star Trek: The Next Generation.
It seems rather tiresome to even have to refute this kind of demented nonsense, but since Whoopi Goldberg is now the first Hollywood celebrity spokesperson for the We Never Went to the Moon movement, it seems like a good time to approach the matter from a Hollywood film making perspective.
Neil Armstrong, who knows certainly that we went to the Moon because he was there, said it best when he suggested that in the 1960s it would have been far more difficult to fake a Moon landing (six times!) than it would have been to actually do it. There was no computer graphic technology available at the time to make the “fake” Moon walks seem real.
A special effects expert for the HBO miniseries From Earth to the Moon was posed the same question. He also suggested that the technology was just not there in 1969 to fake a moon landing. He was an expert in faking moon landings, having done it for the miniseries.
I got that right on the MMPI. :)
When we get back up there, somebody has to walk over and pick that fallen flag up out of the dust.
I considered the potential damage to my fellow Freepers, but decided the picture reflected her general intellect and disposition. This is how I imagine these kooks when they get to ranting.
Barbara was only slightly less idiotic in the argument. Whoopie wanted to know how, if Armstrong and Aldrin were both in the shot, somebody managed to take the pictures.
Barbara informed her that the third astronaut was still in the capsule taking the pictures.
As a believer in the landings, I would really like to see the source of those photos, especially if higher resolutions are available.
Anyone who denies the trips to the moon can go get our flag and prove us wrong.
I would like to see her say that to Buzz Aldrin’s face.
Maybe he’ll slug her like he slugged the “moon landing was a hoax” guy who called him a liar and a coward for not “telling the truth” about the hoax.

That is the proof, how long would your arm needed to be to reach back and get the film. !!!!! LOL..
Plus, isn’t there something to amateur radio dudes pointing their equipment at the moon and getting a signal? I forget the deets, but the main point was that at least we sent SOMETHING to the moon, the direction of the origin of the signal can not be faked.
Why in the name of heaven would you think that?
Cool thing is, barring a very close meteorite hit, there’s no dust on it forty years later.
Who is the most stupid? Whoopi or Sheila Jackson Lee, who thinks our astronauts planted a flag on Mars?
All I can say is that Ted Danzen must have been one dumb a**ed man to marry that.
