ROGERS: Obama’s Blue Dog Blues
The Politicizer ^ | July, 20, 2009 | Conor J Rogers

Posted on 07/21/2009 9:33:19 AM PDT by FMoran

Cap and Trade has stalled in the Senate, and limped out of the House by only a seven-vote margin. Universal Healthcare may not even make it out of committee in Congress. The stimulus package was held up for days, and cut by billions of dollars thanks to moderate Republicans and Democrats.

On this information alone, one could say that the Republicans have been doing a good job at stalling the Obama agenda…except for the fact that it’s Conservative Democrats – otherwise known as Blue Dogs– that have been stopping, or at the very least delaying, the President’s agenda.

It is Blue Dog Chairman Rep Mike Ross (D-AR), not Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), who is the center of headlines regarding opposition to healthcare. Conversely, yet of the pattern, it was moderate Republicans like Leonard Lance, rather than conservative Democrats like Ross, that pushed the climate change bill into the majority column. Though the Blue Dogs are not a new phenomenon, they are growing, and becoming increasingly vocal.

The stated opposition to healthcare and cap & trade by 52 moderate and conservative Democrats (many of them recently elected) raise an interesting question: though party control of Congress has changed, has its ideology?

When the Blue Dogs meet hammer and tong (Emanuel and Axelrod) they will come around. Even Steffy said that the White Crib will be “crackin’ skulls”.

Simply because if 100% of all Repubs said NO!!! It would not even put a dint in 0’s agenda.

Anyway we look at it, we need 100% repubs and as many Blue Dog Dems as we can get. They will be our best friends if they stop this from getting to 0’s desk

Hopefully the ‘Blue Dogs’ will continue their efforts. However, the author leaves out the point that the GOP has been wiped out in the last 2 elections, and, at least on the House side of things (C&T, excluded) have been solid in stopping or slowing Barry’s agenda. There’s only so much you can do when you’re outnumbered the way the GOP is. The ‘Blue Dogs’ may incur a debt of gratitude!

The problem is that people like Casey and Spinchter from Pa, Byrd and Rockefeller from West Virginia and Webb and Warner from Virginia can never support things like Cap n Trade. With the amount of coal and natural gas in these states, it would be suicide for any politician (D or R) to vote for the bill. That's 6 Dems right there that could never vote for Cap N Trade no matter what arm twisting Obama does.

Many of the Blue Dogs uphold conservative principles better than most of the GOP, who are RINOs.

This is simply a desperate act of self preservation.

The so-called Blue Dogs are fighting for their political survival in conservative districts.

A Dem is a Dem is a Dem. Period.

The repubs are mistaken to throw these Dems any kind of political cover. Let them drown with their commie leaders.

Blue dogs in conservative districts had better change their party affiliation to GOP to avoid the bloodbath in 2010.

Here’s the ACU ratings of the so-called “Conservative Blue Dogs”

ACU Lifetime Ratings

Blue Dog Leadership Team

Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (SD) 41%

Rep. Baron Hill (IN-09) 2008 - 21%

Rep. Charlie Melancon (LA-03) - 46%

Rep. Heath Shuler (NC-11), 34%

Now compare to the “RINOs”

Collins (ME), 50%

Snowe (ME), 48%

McCain (AZ), 81%

Graham (SC), 90%

Even the most conservative Dem is still to the left of the most liberal Repub. It’s all BS to save their skin in conservative districts.

No they don’t. The “Blue Dogs” are what we’d call “RINO’s” if they shifted party affiliation. It’s all show and tell resistance on their part. They resist the bare minmum they believe is necessary to hang on to their positions and not an effort more. Remains to be seen if they’ll follow through on their tough talk and stop this or not. I’m inclined to believe they fold.

GOP are nothing worth bragging about. But let’s not raise these Dems up as if they are the second coming of Zell Miller. I wish tey were, but they are not.

If we could just replace more Republicans with rats, "conservatives" would be so happy

Apparently NOT the happy weed you are!

Case in point: Zell Miller or Olympia Snowe - Zell is a dem that I would vote for any day of the week. Snowe has been a better supporter of zer0 and Harry Reid's policies than she has any GOP policies.

Me too, too bad he left politics over four years ago. There AIN’T NO Zell Miller types left in the Democratic party. Sadly enough there IS an Olympia Snowe in the Republican party.
