Henry Louis Gates Jr, America's most famous black scholar, has accused local police of racism after he was arrested while trying to break into his own home near Harvard University.
According to a police report, officers in Cambridge, Massachusetts, were called to the house on Thursday afternoon after a woman said she had seen a man "wedging his shoulder into the front door as to pry the door open".
According to police, an officer ordered the man to identify himself and Prof Gates refused.
He allegedly began calling the officer a racist, repeatedly saying: "This is what happens to black men in America." Officers said they tried to calm down the 58-year-old academic only for him to tell them: "You don't know who you're messing with." Prof Gates, who was named as one of the 25 most influential Americans by Time magazine in 1997, was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge after police said he "exhibited loud and tumultuous behaviour". He was released later that day and is due to appear in court next month. He is the director of Harvard University's WEB du Bois Institute for African and African American Research.

Maybe but I tend to think it is just their way of thinking. Did you see this?

Just common sense. But I'm afraid that too many leftist professors have underdeveloped common sense. Especially when their line of work is to preserve and cultivate a money making chip on the shoulder. The world as a whole would be a better place if everybody behaved with an air of mutual respect and a presumption of common civility, letting the other guy make the first decent into pettiness.
Don't give into repression by the man! Policeman risking their lives to protect a person's safety and property? I would be outraged! No Justice, No Peas!
“even when I get one, the officer is always cool and relaxed.”
At worst, I had to pay the fine and no ticket and no points. I always ask and then turn on the ceiling light before reaching into the glove box for my stuff. ALWAYS keeping my hands in sight and pointing out verbally when I am moving them in ANY spot that might not be in their perfect view.
And if the officer were black... he'd be an Uncle Tom, working for The Man to keep a Brother down?
Sheesh...
The white power structure, of course. Do we really have to ask anymore?
“he followed the cops into his front yard berating and threatening them AFTER they had decided to leave”
OH MY FREAKING GOD!!!! How dare he! There are times like this when I wish the Chinese would run our justice (or at least police) system and show this pig a thing or two about respecting your officer of the law.
lol is that his mug shot?
My, what an original accusation! NOT!
He did! He showed the copy his Harvard ID and driver's license and they still arrested him! Perhaps conservatives should recognize that blacks could also be an emerging abusive police state.
He allegedly began calling the officer a racist, repeatedly saying: "This is what happens to black men in America." Officers said they tried to calm down the 58-year-old academic only for him to tell them: "You don't know who you're messing with."
Well, if he would have identified himself, they would have known who they were messing with!
Sheesh.
. If you were black, showed the cops proof (driver's license and Harvard ID) that you lived at the address, they refused to show their badges, and then arrested you in your own home, you'd be screaming "racism" too. If conservatives really are against big government, perhaps someday they will stop taking the government's side all the time when the victim happens to be black and the perp happens to be a cop.
Dumbass.
He obviously has not seen this video:

Rule #2: “Use common sense.”
Also: “Be polite.”
he followed the cops into his front yard berating and threatening them AFTER they had decided to leave
He wanted to provoke an incident and then claim racism. It happens all the time.
They isn't what Gates says. He says that presented the copy with a picture ID and then was arrested in his own hom. Why do you automatically take the word of a governmnent official over a citizen homeowner? I thought conservatives were suspicious of big government,
