Next up in this pyramid-shaped system might be the blue collar taxpayers that sometimes vote and occasionally get involved in local politics
Then we see middle-classers who most likely vote and have some local and occasional Nation involvement in politics. Government drones often fill these ranks.
The next to the highest caste in this pyramid-shaped society could be the college educated banker/lawyer/teacher/asshat-bueraucrat types
The last rung in this mythical ladder of misery is the uber-rich well connected or politically deft that have risen to the top thru connections; payoffs; intimidation/violence; family money/connections and oddly, some with real talent.

An Internal Affairs investigation found no misconduct among officers who spoke with the clerk about the tape. But it concluded that Lopez had verbally abused Lawless, had jammed his gun into her face and had violated departmental procedures that night.
!!! These abominations are not going to stop until EVERYONE involved -- both the initial bad actors and the fellow bad actor thugs in the department, the DA's office, etc. who cover for them -- are criminally prosecuted and imprisoned if found guilty. Until then, police departments like these are just another armed gang (but worse, because they're operating under the color of government, paid for by us).
When someone is pointing a gun in your face, that is the time to calm down and realize that at that moment, your life is worth more than your dignity. There is plenty of time for revenge after you are safe.
That is no doubt true. But many times it is better to live to fight another day. There is nothing to gain by having a fit in those circumstances. What if her (boyfriend?) had been shot when he intervened to calm her down and break up the fight? Have you never seen Romeo & Juliet in which Mercutio is stabbed by Tybalt under Romeo's arm?

It probably a good thing for you too. Officer Lopez should be arrested for his behavior. Ms. Lawless is fortunate that she did not get hurt for hers. She was severely mistreated, the video leaves no doubt of that. However she reacted in an uncontrolled and dangerous emotional way that showed that she had no cognition of the physical danger that she and her companions were in. If there had been no video, and she had been shot, her attacking position within the room could have been construed by biased investigators as an assault. The way to deal with an angry dog is to neither attack nor flee. The situation was no different with this power abusing jerk Lopez.
Not all black people hate the police, but you make a valid point. If, instead of a young white woman, a young black man had been in this same situation, would the reaction be different? I suspect most people would believe the officer's son's story that he was threatened by the occupants of the car when he hit it.
As is, I tend to believe the woman and her companions did jump out of the car and threaten the officer's son when he hit them. But, then both the officer and his son behaved more like vigilantes, lied, and, together with other officers, tried to cover up. The real hero of this story, as others have said, is the store clerk. Now there's a brave soul right there...

Placing the barrel of a gun into somebody’s neck is “assault’.
The weapon is certainly “deadly”.

At the least in NY this is menacing or reckless endangerment.
Not to mention what the cop did at the very least was falsifying a report.
His report being an official document - would constitute a felony when he filed it falsely.
The marks she had on her would be assault with a deadly weapon (pistol whipping) because the arrest was not made under the color of law. It was obviously due to his son that he over reacted.
I can go on and on. At minimum, he should lose his job, and pension which is what I would push for. If he didn’t resign immediately, I would push the charges on him within 24 hours.

Some of what you say is true. Many cops have the us / them mentality. But I think you would be surprised at how many would also refuse to cover up for anything remotely illegal.
It has degrees of variance. A very few would go along and try to cover it up like the two that asked if the tape would be erased and for the clerk to testify on the cops behalf and “help him out”
More would walk away and not want to get involved one way or another because of fear of being branded a rat, not getting back up when they needed it or even having evidence planted on them by this bad cop at his first opportunity to screw them for not helping.
Then you have the majority, who would try to rectify the situation by removing the cop before anything escalated like it did. Report what they must with very heavy hearts knowing that they ill be unpopular, but that it was HIS misconduct and that they should not make another mistake to correct his.
Then there are a few who would hold him 100% accountable like anybody else, neither better or worse than the average Joe.
Lastly a small group would do everything that they could to ram it so far up his moon that he would need to see a proctologist on a regular basis for years to come.
Mainly it depends on the amount of training that they get from the very beginning in the academy, what they are exposed to and how the department treats it’s officers and how the public treats them that dictates which rough group that they fall in.
But again, I think you would be surprised on how many guys would not stand for this in one way or another.
I think you have wisely thought through what to do, or have had some training.
Personally, I have done neither, but I tend to react to situations calmly. My wife on the other hand, would fly off the handle if someone did that to her.
We all have different instincts, and will react differently to a sudden situation. To judge her with what she was unexpectedly going through is I think, over the top. I would point out the fact that she had to move, had to start her life completely over to deal with this. She reacted differently then you or I would.
The Peace Officer, on the other hand, knew exactly what he was doing. He is an Ass, and should be off the force, shoveling manure in a dairy somewhere.
What I don’t get, gun maker, is why you good guys on the force put up with people like this. Who ends up examining these cases, it seems the deck is stacked against the public.
Notice they store clerk was asked to clear the tape a couple of time.
They seem to be protected at every turn. Surly there are plenty of candidates out there who can handle the job and not use their position as a power trip?

The store clerk will doubtlessly be subjected to abuses by Officer Friendly and his friends. He is a very brave man.
May G*d protect him from the thugs in uniform, because the DA certainly will overlook any, and I mean “any” vile behavior on the part of the cops.
On the other hand, that city is an example of how a Democrapic Party administration results in converting a big city into a “Big Sh*tty”.
Abuse of power.
I can only imagine what else this “C-riminal O-n P-atrol” does when he thinks no one is watching. A good PI should follow this COP for a month to see what he really does during his routine shift work.
