Ron Paul and Jim DeMint Take on the Fed
City Paper, Charleston, SC ^ | 2009-07-16 | Jack Hunter aka Southern Avenger

Posted on 07/19/2009 6:09:56 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

As of this writing, every single Republican in the House and over 60 Democrats have co-sponsored Ron Paul’s H.R. 1207 Federal Reserve Transparency Act, which calls for an audit of the Federal Reserve. Given the current economic crisis, it turns out that many legislators are eager to see just how the Fed is able to print new money out of thin air. In the 1980’s, Paul introduced similar legislation with virtually no help from his fellow Republicans. In 2009, the entire party has lined up behind Ron Paul.

And big kudos are in order for one Republican who has gone out of his way to help form that line. Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina isn’t exactly of the same libertarian stripe as Paul, and no doubt the two men don’t agree on everything. But on the one, overriding and glaring problem any conservative worth his salt should be concerned with — big government and massive spending — one would be hard pressed to find a more heroic Republican ally of Paul than DeMint.

I am glad to see more interest in looking at the Fed, Being in the minority, I wonder what success they will have forcing an anal exam of the Fed !!

I think someone better start taking a hard look at what is going on at the Treasury as well.

YES IT IS TIME FOR THEM TO GET AN AUDIT. EVERY OTHER BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT IS UNDER THE WATCHFUL EYE OF PUBLIC SCRUTINY...WHY NOT THE FEDS.

This is sort of a race.

If TARP, TALF, Cap & Trade etc. and the massive government takeovers or private enterprises don't finish this country off, true politicians in charge of the fed and the money supply will.

Audits are forensic. I don't think we really want to know what has already happened.

Having said that, the fed needs some sort of universal cease and desist order.

It is a private enterprise. That is part of the problem.

Funny how when the IRS audits it’s a no holds barred game plan with zero limits. But when it comes to auditing the ruling masters at the fed, there are restrictions and limitations.

...Lot's of republicans and conservatives over the years were for the free market, private enterprise and capitalism. It's starting to come out in the open that Big Business is in bed with Big Government. The lobbies, the Czars, monopolies like GE, the unions are interested in making the poor more dependent, and those that sign on to there plan, are welcome. Squash small business and make them pay more taxes and insurance and there will be no stopping complete control over all power of this country...

Correct. Many others like McFadden during his time and after, have been called and ridiculed all their professional and personal lives for challenging the FED.

Milton Friedman proved the Fed was responsible for the engineering of the Great Depression. Bernanke recently admitted they did.

“It is a private enterprise. That is part of the problem.”

A lot of stuff was “private enterprise” but that didn’t stop the Congress from “looking into” their business. I’m “private enterprise” but that doesn’t stop the gov fronm looking up my economic skirts at every opportunity. I don’t have any protection, why should they?

There is a word that describes the incestuous relationship between government and corporations that favor one corporation to the exclusion of others - fascism. It doesn’t help when prominent conserative talkers defend corporations as though all corporations are capitalist. It is almost as if they are completely unaware of the lobby industry. What do they think corporations are buying with their campaign donations?
