A War Between Two World Views (The coming battle in the US)
RealClearPolitics ^ | 7/17/2009 | David Warren

[....]The outrage expressed, today, at the very existence of Sarah Palin, not only by progressive Democrats but by urbane "establishment" Republicans, is in many ways the product of this shift. Increasingly, I find, people on the left simply cannot accept any right-wing view as legitimate. The mere fact it can be so labelled puts it beyond the pale.

We often read that the old categories of "left" and "right" have become irrelevant. It is an argument almost invariably propounded by the left. They have been freed, for more than a generation, from anything resembling serious public debate, and have thus got in the habit of proceeding with an infinitely extendible agenda (through the courts if there are legislative delays). The right has meanwhile got in the habit of feeling disenfranchised.

The right is still there, however: mostly invisible to media editors, beyond their goldfish world. (The immense success of Fox News came from recognizing this "niche market," consisting of about half the population.)

[....]

We are going to have a war, next door in the U.S.A. -- a war between two world views that have become very nearly mutually incomprehensible. One might almost say that it was quietly declared on the op-ed of the Washington Post Tuesday.

Imagine if some governor, in Texas or another state with a sense of what the Constitution really means, actually had the backbone to form and arm an organized, full time, state militia with the intended purpose of protecting the true constitutional rights of the state, the international borders of the state, and the rights of the state residents.

I think the first thing would be that that governor would be overrun by volunteers. And they wouldn’t be only residents of the state, either.

“she is quite intentionally signalling that she is ready for war.”

In the same way that George Washington was in 1776?

I join DSC in complimenting your pithy appraisal of the factions and go around mumbling similar, myself.

Do without is a way of life with me. Been there and done that, Army time was my time to thrive in this way of living. Builds character as the Army puts it. Brings out the best in a guy when he has to do without.

Liberals have no idea what they're starting. The ironic thing is that we hope and pray that they will stop soon and begin to reverse the damage. But if they don't, they'll figure out why we've been so nice. The next couple of steps in the logical progression are very NOT nice, and it's difficult to explain to them that they're completely UNPREPARED for what's likely to happen. They aren't able to comprehend it, much less understand it and react to it.

Written letters, made phone calls and attended teaparties in hopes my voice would be heard. Not only did it not work, they mocked us for trying. Time to take it up to the next level. Like you say,

They aren't able to comprehend it, much less understand it and react to it.

May God save us from what is about to happen.

Somehow, I think the country boys will do better than the city boys, if it comes to an urban-rural rupture.

The only recourse for the fedgov will be Stalinist agrarian mandates. Provide the food, or else.

The difference of course, is that the Russian Kulaks didn’t have millions of scoped deer rifles.

I was a little surprised when our sons, both white collar businessmen, when asked what they wanted for Christmas this past year, said they wanted guns and ammo. I was extremely surprised when our daughter asked for a .45 and a Sig Swat AR15. Now I think they might have been wise. I guess at this point many are beginning to think they may have to protect their homes and families. If all hell breaks lose, who knows what will happen? There are not enough LEO’s to protect everyone and it takes time for them to arrive.

I tend to agree with you. We live in a fairly rural place now, but where we bought land just 20 minutes north is where our good friends are. Between here and there everybody stores food, cans food, keeps and raises livestock and poultry, hunts, target practices...as a course of habit pretty much. I contrast this with people I know in town who live week to week between trips to Kroger. It's these people who really suffered during the last big ice storm we had back around 2003. They ran out of food in "about" 72 hours. The roads didn't clear for a week. Power wasn't back for 10 days in most places. They were a miserable bunch at the end of a week!

It's a different mindset in rural communities. But there's a facet nobody has thought of, and I'm a little reluctant to bring it up. But everybody thinks they've predicted the outcome of an urban-rural rupture (as you've aptly called it!). One side thinks the boys from the hood are going to terrorize the farmer, rape his daughter, eat his cow, take his food, and go from home to home out in places like our neck of the woods, and that will just be the way it is. Others think that we'll shoot them on sight and that will just be the way it is.

But since this entire discussion revolves around observations of a "cold" war in progress which could go "hot", escalation of force and tenets of warfare APPLY and this is something most people don't think about.... but SOME do.

What IF none of the predictable things happen? What if the country boys take prisoners and then interrogate them CORRECTLY...use that information in the larger scope of gathering information...and then (after doing the Three S's to the prisoner) go for a little visit in town at 0200 where the zombie came from and burn his entire apartment block to the ground?

I'm not suggesting ANYTHING. I'm just saying that there ARE people running around who don't think of things like what we're watching digress in terms like most others. The outcome could of course go against the rural person as well... for a time. Being a rural person and having the contrast, I tend to lean in the direction of rural people being a dangerous bunch when they organize and coordinate...especially if a bunch of them are former DoD with certain "skills". I THINK you can relate to what I'm trying to explain though. These things are why I don't believe the left can comprehend what's likely to happen if they continue. Yes, it's going to be unpredictable, but potentially inconceivably ugly as well.

The goobermint better damn well feed their zombies before they wander out and get up to no good out in the country! ...and they better keep them fed really, really well! There's a lot of room out here!...and a lot of people with firearms and shovels who shoot, shovel, and shut up, even when the zombies stay away!

And YES...scoped rifles certainly do make a difference!
