The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is doing just about everything it can to take down Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), who has emerged as its best incumbent target of the 2010 election cycle.
But its vice chairman, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), isn't helping the cause on that front.
In an interview that aired on National Public Radio on Thursday morning, Hatch praised Dodd as "one of the better senators here."
Hatch was being interviewed alongside Dodd on Democratic efforts on health care, and despite their differences, a love fest ensued.
"Now, I want to compliment Chris, because when Sen. (Ted) Kennedy has suffered from his illness, they asked Chris to chair this. And to come right in without staff and to be able do the job that he's done, I'm really impressed," Hatch said. "Of course, I always have been; Chris is one of the better Senators here. And I know that Ted felt that this would be in good hands with him."
The recording is here, about a minute in.
I hope Sarah starts a second party soon.
Hatch forgot his Utah roots a long time ago. He has been a Washington insider and member of the Senate’s “good old boys club” for decades.
We need to drop the whole republican vs democrat pretense and recognize that its us vs them.
Clean every one of these (expletives deleted - and it was a lot of them!) out. Put out the roach motels, fumigate, etc and then let the air clear so cocktail party criminals no longer decide our fate...I thought I was totally fed up before. I was wrong.
We ought to send Sen. Hatch some kneepads while we’re at it. What a joke. I am so glad I am through with the GOP, if this is what the GOP wants to be.
Endorsements, from individuals, aren’t worth a bucket of spit at the ballot box.
Wish that Hatch didn’t do it, but -— during legislative battles like we are in now, when we NEED some Democrat defectors -— lets give him some slack.
It is not the job of our elected officials to shoot spit wads and insults at the opposition Party at every opportunity.
We can hold their feet to the fire, when it comes to actual votes, but -— being cordial and polite is not an act of betrayal.
I wish Hatch had not gone as far, sure, but -— he is trying to get along, in the minority, and get things stopped that we don’t like.
Orinn Hatch has “part of the problem” stamped on his forehead.
RINOs and moderates are lying manipulative bottom feeding scum.
Its a “Good ol’ Boys club” and always will be until we replace the entire gaggle of them. Toss ‘em all physically or via the ballot!
Unfortunately, Hatch is right. They are all worthless!
Yet another reason to repeal the 17th amendment. Put the Senate back to representing the states, and not pandering to individual voters back home.
Yep.
A guy on Sean the other day called the Democratic and Republican parties a two headed dragon!
WRONG! Hatch is just one of 100 of the most corrupt people in this country.
As I have stated more than once, “by the end of their second term they are ALL corrupted by the sweet siren's call of power. Never ever vote for an incumbent
Hatch is a little weakling. He’s more interested in being Mr nice guy then fighting for conservative principals. Maybe he’s a homosexual who sucks up to the left out of fear of being exposed. I wouldn’t be surprised.
Stockholm Syndrome?
I think this is the case with many of the ‘conservatives’ we send to Washington.
