At the beginning of the film, The Paper Chase, the somber professor tells his classroom of first year law students that they would have to learn to think like lawyers. He meant the need to cultivate the skill of analytical thinking that is required to understand legal issues. Understanding basic contract or tort law isnt the great struggle in law school. Figuring out how to spot an issue, understand the rule of law and apply it to a given set of facts is the mission. Next is grappling with the Weltschmerz of not being the smartest one in the room anymore. Core courses are commonly studied for a year; the art of legal analysis starts on day one and doesnt end until the bar exam.
Presumably, when presented with a dispute, a capable lawyer knows how to ferret out the actual issues involved. Much of what people want to sue each other over is, legally, nonsensical. Any litigator in practice will tell you about the equanimity required with clients who dont understand how to articulate an actual point to their stories of being done wrong.

BAd headline. It cheapens the story.
Somebody (*cough* Sotomayer) managed to escape with her “head full of mush” still intact.

Which is why it’s impossible for a liberal to be a judge. They think too much from the heart.
I am praying that Roberts will the one to slowly educate this notsobright latina.
Doubtful Rehnquist could have done it, his demeanor was quite different than Roberts.
If Ginsberg resigns we’ll have a better chance of keeping the Court educated and on the right track.
Just have to keep praying for America.
After all, the Constitution refers to itself as "the supreme Law." The "wise Latina woman" somehow missed that clause in her 19 years as a judge.
Congressman Billybob
Therein lies the difference between judges like Scalia and Sotomayor. Scalia will dissect an argument with laser like precision and leave the presenter looking foolish. Sotomayor will empathize with the presenter if she is sympathetic to the issue and emote her way to a decision.
Good read. I thought Sotomayor’s responses were intellectually lacking. I couldn’t help be impressed with her rapid blinking, it was almost distracting. She did not demonstrate automatic clear, logical mental processing.
“They think too much from the heart.”
Latina women react from the heart; they skip the thinking part.
She will get help from her clerks, but since they are little better than your average libtard I must assume that the left’s legal heavyweights will write her opinions like they did Marshall’s. BTW Sailer at takimag devestates her with Robert’s and Scalia’s interogation of Bambi’s solicitor.
If you think for one second that liberal thinking is from the heart, you need an anatomy lesson...
The left smeared Justice Thomas as not intellectually bright, which is untrue. They ignore that the “latina woman” is neither wise nor a first rate intellect.
It’s a dumbing down of the Court in a distinctly leftward manner. For whatever your criticisms of Ginsberg and Souter, at least there is some intellect at work there (however misguided). Sonia the Quota Queen isn’t close to those two, and not even on the same chart as Scalia or Alito.
I think Sotomayor’s testimony establishes she was ONLY in law school as a quota admission NOT a merit admission.
She is clearly incompetent and is only able to answer the questions which were leaked to her.
Even in this day and age of more law schools than there are law students, she should have been flunked out based on her inability to communicate and speak in english.
Her conduct in the New Haven discrimination case should have resulted in a hearing to remove her from the bench.
