How will Meg Whitman spend a $15 million contribution to her own campaign?
Mercury News ^ | 7/15/09 | Ken McLaughlin

Few political junkies were surprised Monday when Republican Meg Whitman announced she had plunked down $15 million from her own wallet to bolster her gubernatorial campaign.

After all, Whitman, the former CEO of the online auction house eBay, is a billionaire who had promised to spend as much as $150 million of her own money to become governor. But her latest contribution left political analysts and staffers in opposition camps puzzling over what she's going to do with all that money.

As could be expected, the Whitman campaign wasn't revealing much as far as strategy.

But one thing about her Monday announcement is clear: Compared with the other four gubernatorial hopefuls, she now has a war chest as tall as the Empire State Building.

Whitman has raised at least $6.7 million and put in $19 million of her own money — for a total of $25.7 million.

Fellow Republican Tom Campbell has raised just $580,000 and state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner has $1.2 million. Republican Poizner, a Silicon Valley multimillionaire, also has kicked in $4.2 million of his own money.

On the Democratic side, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has raised at least $1.6 million.

Meg sends me 5 million and I will tell her how to spend the other 10. What a bargain.

Heck with Ahnuld, how many multiples of times better would she be than Newsom? That’s the big question.

This is how Romney gave us the 2008 election, he threw such a heavy financial challenge out early which kept out quality conservative challengers.

This is a heck of a message for this pro-abortion republican to send, what conservative can challenge her and her Romney support.

personally I think California should be run by Democrats until they are ready for a Conservative approach (after the inevitable failure of taxes)

No need for a Republican to act as a Democrat (to be fair I don’t know much about her fiscal policy but socially she may as well be a Democrat)

In San Antonio that would be spent as ‘walking around money’, otherwise known as buying votes.

So she’s going to Romney-fy the campaign? She’s willing to spend 150 million dollars, propping up a campaign she may not otherwise be strong enough to win, keeping other, more worthy candidates from entering and winning?

We need to find hobbies for people like Whitman and Romney.

How about we set them up with lessons from Tiger Woods, maybe knock a few points off their score?
Maybe teach them to play Boggle?

Anything other than these conceited vanity campaigns. Just because they can afford to run for office, doesn’t mean that there is a desire on the part of the people for them to do so.

She’d be the same give or take.

She was a huge fan of commie Van Jones.

Of the three RINOs running for CA Governor she is worst. With the other 2 you can make a half-as$ed claim that they’re worth supporting. But not her.

BTW she should use the 15 mil for a makeover.
