Yes, when I tell people that I'm originally from Philadelphia, I always follow “I grew up in Philly” with “I was born there”. I'll either say that, or “I was born and raised in Philadelphia.”

But never just “I grew up” there and nothing else. I found that a little odd, and Obama seemed to look around nervously right after telling them, “I grew up in Hawaii”, like he was missing something. I'd love to see a tape of that moment in the booth. Of course, I could just be projecting my own suspicions here, and this could be nothing.
