Obama says lost auto jobs are gone Tue Jul 14, 2009 2:36pm EDT

By David Alexander

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama took a dose of reality to Michigan on Tuesday, saying that thousands of jobs lost to the auto industry's downturn are not coming back and it is time to prepare for new industries.

Traveling to Michigan, a state hit hard by job losses as Detroit's Big Three automakers have reeled from the U.S. recession, Obama planned to promote a $12 billion initiative to boost community colleges and increase the graduation rate.

"(The) hard truth is that some of the jobs that have been lost in the auto industry and elsewhere won't be coming back," Obama was to say, according to prepared remarks released by the White House.

"They are casualties of a changing economy. And that only underscores the importance of generating new businesses and industries to replace the ones we've lost, and of preparing our workers to fill the jobs they create," Obama will say.

Auto jobs are gone, insurance jobs are gone, car dealer jobs are gone, tobacco jobs are gone, retail jobs are gone, housing industry jobs are gone, etc. etc. And Obama gets credit for telling the truth.

Would you like to end this depression tomorrow? Have a withholding tax moratorium. Pay the tax due on April 15th.

Would you like to restart the Auto industry? Start building Autobahn type highways (21st century) and not trains or the old Eisenhower Interstate type roads (20th century).

He’s been touted as the smartest president the country has ever had.

EVERY Dem since the beginning of time has been touted as the smartest ever. Biden was touted as the smartest whatever, Hillary was touted as the smartest whatever . . . . . . . . name a Dem, you get the picture.

OTOH, the SRM and the Dems LOVE to castigate conservatives as dumber than a bucket of hair. Reagan was dumb, Bush 41 and Bush 43 were too dumb to put a plate of food and hunger together.

The problem, as we all know, is that the Dems engage in "projection" in which they accuse their opponent of being/doing the things THEY are/do. Which means, then, that it is liberals who are dumber than a bucket of hair and REAL conservatives who are smarter than whatever. RINOs follow the liberal model.

..and the remaining auto jobs will be gone once government-mandated “green car” inventories are full to overflowing.

This $12 billion is going right into teachers and education bureaucrats’ pockets. None of the money is going for the students itself.

You wanted him. You got him MI. I wish CA had voted on 11/4/08 as it did on 5/19/09, when we started to fight back.

Ahhh, syndicalism is alive and well. Too bad we can’t say the same for prosperity.

LOL! Sounds like industry in Cuba where workers erected signs about the (endless) Revolution and pictures of Fidel.

The UAW and liberalism get all the credit for destroying Detroit. I hope Ford can survive because GM and Chrysler will die. China got a pretty good return on the campaign contributions. My guess is GM will be selling only Chinese built cars in the near future.

There will be no new industries...

All sections of the EPA and all the Greenies and Environazis will stop any new industries.

Be prepared to ride a stationary bicycle hard to produce enough power to work your computer.

Good Luck.

Recycle inspectors?
Cap and Trade speculators?
Bicycle repair shops?”

Saddle and harness makers??

I was listening to Rush the other day.It was during a commercial break ,they had Obama stumping for his volunteer browmshirt program where he’ll have to draft people into because of very little takers.Maybe this is why he wants such a big unemployment rate.

Obama the green eyed monster he is so envious of the US hard work and ingenuity.

I wonder if he ever had a job as a teen like delivery or stock boy?

Was he always on the streets...

This man is so missed directed and ignorant of how the world works.

Yes he could say we really are ignorant how the devil world works.

Choose ye this day who ye will serve Obama the light salvation or darkness eternal damnation.

What you do to the children on earth in the scheme of things is but for a moment, but those who do it to the children of God will be in outer darkness forever.

My entire career has been in manufacturing and engineering. With that I can say the only jobs I’ve seen permanently lost are union ones.

I keep wondering something. I know the jobs are gone, but do the laid off union workers keep getting paid? You know, kind of like when the automakers "close" a plant for a month to cut expenses. They never tell you that the workers still get their paychecks for that month. It's really just a paid vacation for them.

It's amazing how little we know about the deal that was cut with the UAW (now Government Motors).

I’ve said for years that if a meaningful number of employers would stop withholding or millions upon millions of employees go in and fill out the form to up their withholding exemptions high enough so that no money is withheld, we could shut this bitch down. Just quit paying the bastards.

A withholding tax revolt that is grass roots initiated. Simply adjust your withholding paperwork, and increase the number of dependents. Can we use the tea parties to make this happen? I believe that it should start on the blogs and then spread to Glenn Beck, Neal Boortz, Mike Gallagher, Rush, etc. A final national appeal can occur on 9-12.
