My 6 yo son refused to go within 20 feet of the Canyon’s edge. LOL I have family photos with the rest of us standing at different points near the Canyon and one little boy standing far, far away!
I would stay even farther back than that....I told wifey - who was gleefully leaning over the rail for a better look - that if she slipped, she was on her own, ‘cause I wasn’t getting any closer.
I’m with your son! I can’t even stand photos of high places...like construction workers at the top of a skyscraper looking down. Gives me the CREEPS!
Your 6 yo grand son is a wise child. You’d never get me close to the edge either!
That was my son too!!! Once screamed at me that I was going to let his sister die because she was standing at the rail at the Ruby Falls Overlook.
He grew up to be a combat medic and has had to stablize injured persons in just such situations. His concern for his patients overrode his fear, but he still does NOT like heights. He trained with Airborne, jumped out of helicopters - would rather not.
I get dizzy on a step ladder. Hubby was griping recently because I still haven’t hung the family pictures after 3 years in the new house. I told him to get his happy butt up on the ladder and do it himself!
I don’t blame him! I remember standing next to a fence on the edge of a much smaller precipice than would be found at the Grand Canyon. My body felt plastered to the fence, and I felt as if I was being pulled from my body through my eyes.
It was all I could do to push myself away from the fence. It felt like a magnet.
Sounds weird, I know, but it was not a happy feeling!
