Just imagine, you're a leftwing hack and you're breaking a headline like ‘The big bad Freerepublic goons engage in rank racism and call the black president's 11 year old daughter a whore.’
Which is exactly what the prolific writer Chris Parry got to do.
Sound to good to be true?
Well, it is.
You see, Chris didn't just stumble across some racist comments and say, hey, this needs calling out. No it goes much deeper than that. I'll explain.
I've been a Freeper for over a year now and I've made a few friends along the way. I've also learned a few things about Freepers, and in general, people who participate on internet forums, etc.
One of the things I've discovered is what I call the ‘Ex-Freeper’ phenomenon.
A while back, one of the Freepers who I considered a friend was banned for repeated language infractions on the Religion Forum. Sometime after the fact, this Ex-Freeper sent me, not one, but four very hateful profanity laced emails, prompting me to try to figure out why, which is when I learned they had been banned.
So, why the sudden vitriol?
I've also noticed this Ex-Freeper phenomenon elsewhere. It starts out simple enough, someone signs up to FR, seems to get on okay for a while, but then, for some reason or another gets banned. The profanity laden diatribes are soon to follow on various blogs and forums.
There seem to be two key ingredients necessary. Getting banned, and profanity.
Getting back to Chris.
So, Mr. Parry is the knight in shining armor of internet journalism with a sterling reputation who rides to the rescue of an 11 year old black girl who is being maligned by a bunch of white racist Freepers, right?
Right?
Did I mention that Mr. Parry has admitted[1] to being twice banned from FR and that he makes regular use of extreme profanity[2]?
Did I mention that some of the quotes he used to show that Freepers are racist have been taken out of context[3] and others were possibly posted in concert with his efforts for the sole purpose of smearing FR[4] ?
We should also lay to rest the idea that Mr. Parry has a sterling reputation. He himself has admitted[5] to various posting indiscretions. His posting history includes outright violence[6] and strong undertones of racism.[7]
In other words, the very muddy Chris Parry throws mud on FR and then calls FR muddy.
This is nothing more than a defamatory smear, and its not like he is lacking a motive.
Based on what Mr. Parry has written, I do not find the following conclusion either an unreasonable or unlikely motive for his actions.
Chris Parry, bitter Ex-Freeper.
Racism and violence is never appropriate, but someone with a history of same coupled with an agenda driven by bitterness is completely disqualified to point fingers on the subject.

The fact is, you never know who anyone on the Internet really is in the real world. That the news would make anonymous internet postings somehow more worthy of news than people who are being shot and hung in Iran fighting for freedom says a lot about how low the media has sunk..

From what I can tell, the Kos Kids (including zotted Ex-Freeper/troll retread Chris Parry) tried to conjure a scandal to smear FR.
There is speculation that their ultimate motive has to do with one of Gov. Palin’s ankle-biters getting called on the carpet for starting nasty rumors.
I think the Kos Kids were hoping that MSNBC would air their mud for them.
I was up till 5am this morning and haven’t gotten caught up on todays news though, so I may have missed something.
