McCain allies with Obama on F-22
The Boston Globe - Political Intelligence ^ | 2009-07-13 | Foon Rhee

In the aftermath of the November election, President Obama and Republican foe John McCain pledged to work together for the good of the country.

At the moment, the issue that is bringing them together is the F-22 fighter -- more specifically, how to cut the program.

As the Globe reported on Sunday, Democrats, including some from New England, are fighting the president, trying to preserve the F-22 program to save local jobs.

Today, McCain sought to eliminate $1.75 billion in the proposed 2010 defense budget for more of the fighter jets, the Associated Press reports.

Maybe some of you guys that were in the military can educate me. Are these plane the best? Are they antiquated? Can our money be better spent on some other model? Can our money be better spent on our intelligence capabilities?

I am reminded of those days in which I had decided not to vote at all when McCain was selected. I changed my mind when he picked Palin but was sure right in my first instinct.

My "favorite" moment from the 2008 campaign:

During an early presidential debate (before the implosion of the economy became totally apparent), the question was put:

Moderator: "Senator Obama, we need to cut spending. Our deficit is out of control. Can you give us specifics on where you would cut the budget?"

Obama: "We do need to cut the budget. Our deficit is too big. Here's where I would cut the budget -- I would invest in schools. I would invest in roads and bridges. Most importantly, I would invest in green technology and renewable energy sources."

Moderator: "Thank you. Senator McCain, same question to you?"

McCain: "I would cut defense."

I feel the same way. I believe the North Vietnamese took some of John McCain's sanity in that prison cell. I admire his service, but he would not have made a good president.

That is why they can’t be bought, that would be so unfair to the rest of world’s air forces. How dare we have air superiority. Thanks Juan! If it wasn’t for Sarah Palin, I would have sat this election out too.

Sometimes I wonder if Obama is intentionally trying to gut this nation’s economy and military. How is cutting production and jobs beneficial in a recession? For America to be a strong and economically independent nation, it needs a strong manufacturing center to create our military arsenal which provides wealth and good jobs. Our strong Air Force makes us the most powerful military in the world. If we stop developing F 22s, enemy nations like China will rule the skies. You can’t have a strong fighting force without a strong air force to back it up.

If you can ever get them out of the maintenance hangar and in the air they are.

Keep watching: you'll come around. I have no doubt about this at all -- Obama is working very, very hard to destroy this country. You can't adopt his policies out of stupidity. It's deliberate, targeted destruction.

You'll see.

They are the best things we are aware of. I have a good idea that there are automated drones or space-based weapon platforms near production that have obsoleted the F-22. It would be classified like the Have Blue project was for the F-117 Stealth Fighter. They may be privy to information we aren’t aware of. Then again, it might all be politics.

His Groupthink(tm) chip was installed incorrectly. It short circuits and he becomes a republican every few months.

I am agreeing with that more and more everyday. That is why sometimes I don’t think the comparisons to Jimmy Carter are valid, I would take a Naive Carter to a deliberate and calculating Obama anyday.

Ex-navy pilot fighting to kill off best fighter in the world. We need as many as we can get since the initial numbers we were going to purchase has already been hacked down quite a bit. Even the best plane in the world can engage just so many targets. Some crash. Some will be damaged. Some will be down for maintenance.

McCain is a former Navy pilot, who knows fighter aircraft and what we need. He wants the US to focus on the Advanced Fighter, not the older F-22. This is a critical move given the fact that Russia is stepping up its fighter aircraft development. We can not afford to put our pilots in older technology aircraft

McCain picking Palin, didn’t change the nature of McCain. Palin made who McCain was, more palatable.
