Government spending on homeland security has nearly quadrupled since 9/11, and Americans are grateful they have not suffered another terrorist attack in that time.
But it was disquieting to learn undercover Government Accountability Office investigators smuggled bombs and detonators past guards at high-security buildings that house Justice, State and Homeland Security department offices.
Ten times in 10 tries in April and May, they got the contraband past the guards, assembled the bombs and carried them in briefcases as they "walked freely around several floors."
GAO investigators also lugged bombs into two congressional offices without getting caught. After a good amount of finger-wagging, chest-thumping and harrumphing, lawmakers and government bureaucrats came up with their usual, not-particularly-reassuring, do-something response:
They vowed to spare no expense to ensure this won't happen again (until the next time).
Ping to a Republican-American Editorial.
If you want on or off this list, let me know.

How do we know this is true?
Thanks for the ping Graybeard. I self deleted my thoughts on the matter ;)
If they would hire people based on merit, instead of political pandering and cronyism, maybe they’d get people who take their jobs seriously.
This is good news for terrorists.
Police work isn’t enough to win wars, and police agencies established against foreign threats tend to get introspective in time. Soldiers are needed to win wars.
Yeah, that means it is going to be difficult (until the next fiscal quarter) to do anything for real against government facilities...
Meanwhile, back at the “bat-cave”, what is, or will be done to protect us civilians???
I feel not a lot of thought or expense is going to be considered for the rest of us...
That’s ok...looks like we’ll have to take another one on the chin...
The POTUS should find whatever loophole necessary to deny at least public access to the Capital and any federal buildings until any such buildings can pass hidden security tests; and supply alternative buildings where government staff and officials can meet public quests outside the official offices, until the official offices are secure.
