Well, should've seen this coming: conservative blog Free Republic fired hate speech off at Malia Obama after this photo of her appeared, letting their commenters go to town. But the journalist who reported this as news isn't innocent, either.
Chris Parry of The Vancouver Sun highlighted some of the comments on the mainstream, hard right-wing blog/news aggregator Free Republic. Among them, a picture of Michelle talking to Malia Obama with the caption: "To entertain her daughter, Michelle Obama loves to make monkey sounds." Classy. These mouthbreathing, borderline morons then kept piled on:
"A typical street whore." "A bunch of ghetto thugs." "Ghetto street trash." "Wonder when she will get her first abortion. "Could you imagine what world leaders must be thinking seeing this kind of street trash and that we paid for this kind of street ghetto trash to go over there?" wrote one commenter. "They make me sick .... The whole family... mammy, pappy, the free loadin' mammy-in-law, the misguided chillin', and especially 'lil cuz... This is not the America I want representin' my peeps," wrote another. Such was the onslaught of derision on the site that the person who originally complained about the slurs, a Kristin N., claims only one comment in the first hundred posted actually criticized the remarks as inappropriate.
FreeRepublic claims to be a site that "does not advocate or condone racism, violence, rebellion, secession, or an overthrow of the government." Yet, the thread went down, and back up with the original comments in tact, and then some, notes Chris Parry, the story's writer. Parry was careful and kind enough to - maybe unnecessarily - note the few reasonable voices in the crowd who were conservative, on Free Republic, and not racist. But there're always going to be a few exceptions to the rule, which, as far as you should be concerned, are absolute swamp creatures. Pardon any political incorrectness, but I think you'll agree if you happen to go over and dip your toe in what's mostly a bog of contagiously slimy invective and general retardation.
It gets worse, though. Chris Parry, it appears, has advocated on his Daily Kos blog any number of egregious offenses, among them: posting hate speech on sites like Free Republic and blaming it on conservatives. Parry posted under the name "hollywoodoz" on Daily Kos, where his signature was "Fool me once, I'll punch you in the fucking head." Parry outed himself as hollywoodoz here, where he discloses the company he helped start. In essence: Parry, the journalist, found his story right where he'd been circling it for a very long time, and reported it as news. Sigh.
Bottom line: Parry's noble intentions are paving him a road to hell, by taking the same one the slimeball majority at Free Republic employs. They're probably going to cheer a "mainstream," centrist blog pointing out the offenses of a liberal reporter trying to expose hate speech, but they shouldn't get it mixed up. A quick glance at Free Republic and you'll probably see the same thing I did: some of the most egregious examples that lend credence to the idea that some people just shouldn't be allowed near a keyboard, or to open their mouths, no matter what their political affiliation. Or, as some would have it: STFU.
Neither did I.
Did we really say these things?
Probably not, that's the sort of thing that gets planted by Kos Kids so they can point to hate speech on FR.
*****Update: The Vancouver Sun article was posted at FR earlier today. Those interested should read some of the comments as they deal with what occurred there Thursday.
*****Update II: Maybe before Shuster goes any further with this, he might want to investigate the Vancouver Sun writers possible connection to Daily Kos (h/t NBer carolina09).
HollywoodOz has written some pretty vile stuff at DailyKos during his tenure. These included playing a mnemonics game wherein BUSH was Bloody Useless Sack Of Hatred and CHENEY was Can He Eat Negro Eyes Yet.
Hes also fond of creating Google bombs, including one in 2005 to make Bill OReilly look like a terrorist sympathizer.
Whats the connection to the Suns Chris Parry? Well, Moxie Online has a member named HollywoodOz, real name Chris Parry. Technorati also shows HollywoodOz as Chris Parry.
Beyond this, a man simply calling himself Oz runs a blog called Notes From the Nat which follows baseball, in particular the Vancouver Canadians. In 2006, a fan sent in an e-mail message wherein Oz was referred to as the wizard of HollywoodOz, Chris Parry.
Finally, DKoss HollywoodOz often cites Vancouver newspapers and other Canadian media as he did here, here, and here.
Is this all a coincidence?
Maybe, but as you might imagine, the Freepers are up in arms about this revelation.
Will MSNBC and Shuster investigate any of this before they go ahead with this planned report?
Stay tuned.
Not if they take Noel Sheppards advice.
I refuse to abandon the fight - the stakes are too high.
Some of the comments are included in the story posted as the core of the thread. I remember reading some and am embarassed that I just shook my head and did not alert the mods. But the real story here is if we can bust this guy as having infiltrated and then manufactured the comments.
that only took another 101 posts.. =o)
His quote was "attack negroes and blame Republicans for it". Look around the other threads and you'll find the date, time and context. This guy is one sick puppy who is now in a world of shit.
Agree on the world of hurt, no matter what. However, I'm still trying to track down the quote - if we can find, that's a powerful indictment. The original links in the thread didn't have that, the link given was to the acronym. So was the "attack negroes and blame Republicans" quote someone's interpretation of the acronym, or do we have something better than the acronym?
I’m sure new FReepers are still being monitored. I joined in January and thought something was wrong because it would sometimes take 15 min. or more for my post to show up.
I think possibly they sign up and behave themselves until they feel they’re no longer monitored and then let loose.
Well, a renewed effort by FReepers to hit the abuse button will probably come from all this publicity.
Screw him and his whiny garbage. According to the deep thinking left, anyone who thinks hussein is a POS is automatically a rascist. I’m tired of them labeling people, the heck with the loser leftwing press and the hell with the communist prez.
Very good advice. The moderators (God bless them) can’t be everywhere...it’s up to us.
Liberals as usual ... fake but accurate. The author of the piece cited for this thread is an excellent example of filth that create the negatives so they can repoort them, often with a bit of ‘creative license’. Scum by any other name is a slimy green slick on a pond.
I saw similar longstanding emnity from many whose families had been around nearly as long to a fraction of that time, and some strains of bitterness even within the extended family.
While I knew the reasons, I did not permit the actions of people as much as a couple hundred years ago affect my interaction with others descended from them, although the same cannot be said for others on both sides of the fence.
Character, it may be said, is learned at mother's knee and father's hand, and seems to be passed as a standard from generation to generation. There are those who decide at some point in life that they desire to be of better character (or worse) and act accordingly.
Despite the prejudices I have been exposed to (which incidentally, were decidedly not racial, but oriented toward individual families), I thankfully inherited/embraced my parent's tendency to grant a civil amount of common respect to people and let them advance or diminish that from there.
That has served them well with anyone from the lowest to the uppermost social strata, and in the absence of prejudicial hostility by others has greatly aided them in life.
As for the Obamas and others of their general political philosophies, there is enough grist for the mill without ever mentioning things which can be construed as "racial" or "racist".
In reality, the things being done to this country are an abombination, regardless of who is doing them.
If we stay focused on the actions of the actors rather than the immutable attributes of the actors themselves, we will have plenty to discuss.
That includes inappropriate dress, and we can find a way to state that without hounding the obvious and being branded as racists for our efforts.
IMHO, everyone needs to go back and re-read Ann Coulter's comments on liberals and "victims" and avoid falling into that trap.
As for their children, no matter how 'savvy' they seem, they are still being used to make political points, and even trotted out as 'victims' of our emnity, even though they have been set up to be such when the inevitable comments ensue.
What other family of standing, much less the "first family" would sally forth abroad dressed in what appear to be garments salvaged from the goodwill bin?
Why would anyone in their right mind permit their children to represent America thus?
Why would their 'handlers' and protocol people not quit their jobs in frustration over such attire?
The only reason I can come up with is that this was planned and the results (reactions) are in...enabling the press to consume airtime and sound bytes and column inches and webpages with what awful "haters" we are while obscuring the actual events of the meetings of State.
In so doing, a mere handful of posters, who may be trolls planting 'evidence' have provided the smoke for the smokescreen.
They were horrible to Condi Rice.
Racists extraordinaire...
“To begin, the quotes are incomplete and mostly out of context.”
Thank you for your post!
You answered my question.
Every article I’ve seen had excerpts, and not the full quotes.
Do you know if there is an article with the full quotes?
How hard would it have been for him/them to get a screen shot of the page?
Sounds like someone tossing their trash in their neighbor’s yard and then complaining about trashy neighbors.
Well put.
I don’t see it that way. They brought the kids into it, if we sink to their level it doesn’t make it right!
“They were horrible to Condi Rice. Racists extraordinaire...”
One of their favorites over in DUmmieland was CongoLesbo Rice...
You’re kidding?!
That’s terrible!
Here are some of the cartoons about her.
I found the cartoon of her as Bush’s parrot to be particularly offensive.
Of course, there are many more like it.
No need to worry...the mods are on the job.
ProudPalinSoldier has vanished.
