Boston Zoo May Close, Euthanize Hundreds of Animals
Fox ^ | July 11, 2009

The Franklin Park Zoo, a Boston landmark for nearly a century, may be forced to close and euthanize up to a fifth of the animals in its care due to devastating budget cuts.

New England's largest zoo and its counterpart, the Stoneham Zoo, saw their state funding cut from $6.5 million to $2.5 million by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, the Boston Globe reported, and expects to run out of money by October.

Zoo officials said they would have to lay off most of their 165 employees and find new homes for the more than 1,000 animals they currently house, the Globe reported. Those they cannot relocate — at least 20 percent, officials estimate — may have to be destroyed.

On the bright side, the money saved by euthanizing the animals will be used to continue aborting humans.

Isn’t government grand?

Sounds like the same thing that's been happening at Gannett newspapers.

This fals under the liberal budget argument of “We have to release felons fro jail” and “We have to close firehouses.”

It’s a pathetic BS of an argument.

Good. If anyone deserves harm from the failure of big government it’s Massachusetts. Let them get rid of something it arguably makes sense for local government to run, like a zoo, to protect their out of control Romney care socialized medicine spending.

Get those animals new homes. Any zoo managment threatening to kill them to extort more tax money does not deserve them

Where are the animal rights folks now?

Anybody see a correlation between this and where Government run health care will lead?

Always believed that stuffed ZOO animals should be used to instruct the public...and of course, there are BOOKS!!!

Zoos have become bredding centers...It's all about money!!

I do, that was the first thing I thought.

Either you open up your wallet or your grandma or disabled son will have to die.

Maybe they should reread the Ginsberg interview about letting certain humans overbread.

Notice how none of these states are suggesting cleaning up welfare and illegal immigration. California is a haven for social programs, but instead of doing something about taxpayer dependence, they get rid of those who actually work!

The public schools do the same thing. When the teachers union wants a raise, they threaten to end gym and art to punish the kids until the parents cave in.

These zoo animals are at the complete mercy of the State, wholly dependent on it for their existence and totally incapable of surviving on their own.

Somebody tell me, how do they differ from human wards of the Nanny State?

The zoo animals are what we will all become if Obama’s march against individual liberty continues.

Instead of animals being euthanized, it will be Grandma and Grandpa.

And eventually you and me.

Think about this:

The zoo animals have had medical testing and documentation that allows them to be in our country. That’s more then the current president or any of the millions of illegal aliens roaming about our country can say.

Scary, ain’t it?
