Well, this part is unfortunate.
Still, my questions stand. She looks like the kind of girl zer0 would ogle at the Junior G8, that is, 16 or 17 and not 11. If someone views her "look" as age-inappropriate and criticizes either her or her parents for it (regardless of what was said on the previous thread) is that out of line?
I don't get this line of attack either. She doesn't have a bare midriff or a bikini top on. There's absolutely nothing age inappropriate about what she's wearing. Nothing. She's dressed pretty much exactly how I dressed at 11; t-shirt and shorts. In fact, in a picture from 1981, I'd look pretty much exactly the same (except I had a t-shirt with the Adidas logo. I was a tomboy). The only difference is that she's a hell of a lot taller than I was. So, it's her fault that she's tall? Because that's the only thing that makes her look older than her age.
I certainly don’t think so. I do think making fun of the girl is wrong. I think you can stand blameless if you talk about an event, an item, something that is said. Saying she was dressed inappropriately is both acceptable and in my opinion accurate. Abusing the parents for allowing her to dress like that is called for.
I don’t want to “play nice”. I want to focus criticism on what is done, not who someone is. And I want to raise issues, not poke childish fun at, or make racist comments about kids or even what their parents look like.
I really didn’t think this was a controversal position. Even racists know that you can’t just be racist in public and expect people to listen to your opinion on issues.
