Nope, they had a whole hell of a lot of power from 1994-2006 and blew it!

They need to go the way of the Whigs.

From my understanding of the Whig party history a large portion left when it died and became Republican.

This is not meant to provoke I'm just fueling the debate that needs to happen.

At some point I may be persuaded to change my mind but, If we get another McCain as the nominee in 2012 it's over people.

No not at all. A political party is not a single entity but instead it's a group of people. It was a minority of Republicans and their voters inside a largely conservatively party who formed a coalition with the Democrats that stopped the majority of Republicans and their voters from getting things done from '95 to '06.
