Its interesting to read the comments on the original thread that I posted. By the end it looks like Ive been advocating genocide and infanticide. How many really read the original post on overpopulation and its negative consequences?
Ive long believed overpopulation (yes I know its a subjective term) really IS a problem in our society. Ive traveled the globe and noticed that the quality of life in extremely crowed countries is low and often VERY low. Ive always been glad that Im an American and could come back to the USA were there is some breathing room. Also Ive noticed in my life that many parts of the US are starting to look like third world countries. Those are the areas with the greatest population density. Ask anyone who lived in the Los Angeles area in the 1950s or 1960s and have a living memory of the place a simple question. Is the quality of life better today or was it better then? Id wager every cent I have on the outcome of their answers.
Many have replied that we still have plenty of space. You get replies that if you go out into the middle of the Arizona desert, its almost completely unpopulated. Yes and theres a good reason thats its unpopulated. There isnt any or enough water there to sustain a civilization. Its a great environment for lizards or snakes but thats about it. You also hear the inane argument that every person on the planet could fit inside the state of Texas with an acre of land or something like this. This is an even dumber argument. People dont and cannot live this way. All of us use far more land than that little piece of property we might live on. You must consider food, water, shelter, energy, transportation, waste disposal, natural resources, employment, recreation, and so many other factors it would take the rest of the day. This isnt even to talk about quality of life in the way we have come to know it.
When I mentioned clean water I got one of the most unbelievable replies. One suggested that we could get all the clean water through desalination plants powered by nuclear power plants. Well I guess the people in the central part of the country are screwed because they are not near the ocean. Really, this is beyond belief. Yes in theory we can get clean water from the ocean through desalination plants. But what is the political reality of this? We cant get a nuclear power plant approved now. How are we going to get all these nukes built? Its not going to happen.
Ok, Long threads like this dont tend to get read very often so I will bring this to a conclusion:
1. Overpopulation and the rate of growth of the US population is a serious problem
2. Overpopulation leads to all kinds of strife and eventually violence
3. Overpopulation destroys the natural environment at some point
4. Overpopulation leads to a lower quality of life (as defined by most).
5. Overpopulation Problems are much worst in non-homogenous countries (USA)
6. Overpopulation will destroy our cherished freedoms and traditions.
I could easily list about 50 more but I will stop here as I think most will get the picture.

There was a good article floating around how true capitalism and true freedom with responsibilities is the answer to overpopulation. Not the Marxist fantasy wipe people out.

1. Pick your battles carefully. Don’t try to convince everyone, nor of everything — but be specific about one or two issues with people who really matter to you and who respect you.
2. Counter lefty myths gently and calmly, then change the subject.
3. Do not insist on your own authority; give proof, i.e., responsible links, via email.
4. Do not rely on editorial opinion; go for articles presenting statistical facts and results of studies that show how specific liberal programs have backfired.
Marked, noted and will be used
Thanks

When we explained just the basics of it, she just laughed and said no way, he wouldnt do anything that bad, youre just trying to bad-mouth him and scare me. And on it went. Its literally like being in a zombie movie.You need to pray for this woman's salvation and surrender to Christ. Anything less is just wasting your breath. Remember that it is not the lefties so much as it is the Prince of the World who blinds their eyes and closes their hearts while opening their mouths. They are his puppets until they are saved.

The quality of life in those countries has been limited by despotic leaders, not population.
To: Globalist Goon
Yes I believe this but look at what a large population in the United States has got us. We are more socialistic all the time. How do you go about installing true capitalism in the world. We aren't doing all that great in the US. How are we going to achieve this world wide?
I submit that the large population and the immigration policy since 1965 has driven us to this socialism. I'm a true believer in capitalism, I just don't know how to move in that direction given the population we now have. This is what overpopulation has done to us. It's destroying our personal freedom and WILL erode our liberty and eventually destroy capitalism.

These tyrants have gone into over-reach mode before. Remember Carrol Quigleys Tragedy and Hope? Except they pulled that from print. IIRC, the only group that publicized it was JBS, and like it or not, they were used in a manner similar to this, and for the same reason. An indefensible position needs obstacles put in place to instill distrust amongst your opponents.

truthguy: Many of us simply do not agree with your straight-line conclusion that overpopulation IS the problem, rather than a SYMPTOM of another problem -- the desperation of people who have no hope, and therefore cannot solve problems efficiently. We were off to a great start as a nation started by Christians; and what you have seen in Asia is people who never had the gospel as their cultural inspiration, and do not to this day.
The last 40 years of culture wars have actually deprived people of the hope that Obama thinks political solutions can answer. But political solutions cannot answer the spiritual needs of mankind, as George Bush often observed in simpler language (i.e. "Government can't love a child.").
Therefore, solutions to overpopulation in and of itself are band-aids that do not address the fundamental problem, and will fail as the War on Poverty failed. The answer is our Bill of Rights, and safeguarding our fundamental freedoms of religion, self-defense, association, speech, small federal government, free enterprise, and so on.

Japan hasn't had despotic leaders for a very long time if you haven't noticed. I work with a lot of Japanese people in my business. Almost to a person they tell me that the US should not get overpopulated like Japan. They say that with our non-homogenous population it WILL lead to extreme strife. Yes this is my greatest fear. That it will lead to violence. Right now we are all getting along (reasonably) because there is still enough space for people. When people are backed into a corner it WILL be different.

You didn't address any of my pratical concerns; clean water, food, living space, environment, energy, etc. All I got from you was religious mumbo jumbo. Granted religion in the western tradition (Judeo-Christain) is a very positive force. However there are many Christian Nations that are in dire poverty and misery. So this is not enough. You need something in addition to this. Having faith in Christianity is not a substitute for doing everything else wrong.

Holdren advised Al Gore on An Inconvenient Truth, a film that by one scholar's count contained 10 pages of falsehoods, exaggerations, distortions, and ignored evidence.
~~~
This author could find no retraction of his 1977 statement, "In our opinion, no biologist has made a greater contribution to humanity in this century than Rachel Carson" (p. 854). Carson's primary contribution, through banning the DDT on erroneous grounds, has been the preventable death of 50-90 million souls in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian subcontinent.
In which we see Obama's true attitude toward humanity in general and his African brothers and sisters in particular--
