Kirk still considering
The Chicago Tribune ^ | July 10, 2009

Contrary to a published report, Republican Rep. Mark Kirk says he's still considering a run for the U.S. Senate.

Kirk spokesman Eric Elk said Friday the congressman from Chicago's northern suburbs was still looking at a possible run but that there was no timeline for an announcement.

The Washington Post reported earlier in the day that Kirk had decided not to seek the seat held by Sen. Roland Burris that once belonged to President Barack Obama.

The race for the seat is wide open because Burris announced Friday he won't run for a full term in 2010. A top Illinois Democrat, state Attorney General Lisa Madigan, also has said she doesn't want the seat.

Speculation about Kirk's intentions has run rampant for weeks because he is among the best known Republicans considering a run.

I don’t know WTF is going on. It could be that the reports on his not running are simply jumping the gun. Clearly, Kirk wants to avoid a Republican primary with Andy McKenna, who is ultra-rich and can spend a mountain of his own money. Word now has it that the two are in negotiations, but who knows what the real story is?

I’m resigned to the fact that we need Kirk to win this seat, but I admit that there is a lot to dislike about his voting record. I have no quarrek with those who cast a protest vote against him in the Republican primary, as long as they don’t help elect a Democrat.

I live in IL and would love to see a Republican in that seat, but I’d have to hold my nose while voting for Kirk after the stunt he pulled, voting for the Cap and Tax crapola.

I don’t blame you. That vote was pandering at its most egregious.

After his vote on crap and tax I would feel the same. This guy will only give Republicans the numbers, but he’ll vote rino, which is to say rat.

This guy is the worst kind of RINO. I live in Illinois. If he runs, I write in my neighbor’s cat.

This turncoat is political toast no matter what he runs for.

Conservatives and loyal Republicans have long memories and this reneagade’s vote on the Cap N Trade (aka Cap N Traitors) is very fresh.

Tell Kirk to kiss his political ass goodby because the electorate is going to send him “where no man has gone before.”

What’s your neighbor’s cat’s name, because that’s who I am voting for as well if this idiot Kirk runs. There’s not a way in hell I would EVER vote for him. Might as well hold your nose and vote for the worst liberal, because Kirk is one.

He is the best we could possibly get from Il. He will vote with the GOP half of the time. He will be another Snowe or Collins or Chafee for sure. Perhaps that is better than nothing?

I live in Illinois too, and I'm sick and tired of the "moderates" in this state. I've got my maximum contribution, $2,300 already allocated to whoever Kirk's opponent is in the Primary. If there's no one in the Primary, then it'll go to whoever his opponent is in the General Election.

He tends to vote with the Dem's anyway, may as well have one in office far as I'm concerned. At least we'll know what we're getting then, can't say that about Mark Kirk.

McKenna is a former state Republican Chairman who ran for the Senate in 2004. He comes from an uber-wealthy family. I don’t know where he stands on the issues.

Maybe it’s time for our own self-funded candidates.

I live in Illinois also. I still want to know what did he get for the Cap and trade vote? Or was it a pay back for something he already got? Kirk can not be trusted.

Rep. Kirk (my congressman) probably voted for that bill because he usually votes liberally. He’s pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro-gay marriage, pro-illegal alien, pro-spending increases, and anti-Iraq surge.

He’s out now, Kirk is in.

But I’ll tell you anyway, he may be officially good on the issues but he’s a combiner (the combine in IL are rats and Republican working together in the interests of sleaze and graft ect). He was all set to primary Peter Fitzgerald because of Fitz’s disapproval of pet pork projects of state leaders.

If he ever runs for state office I doubt I’d vote for him in the primary.
