Two days of talks in Costa Rica aimed at ending the political crisis in Honduras have ended without agreement.

Mediators from the host country said the two sides had agreed to resume talks shortly but some regional leaders said they saw little sign of progress.

Ousted President Manuel Zelaya and interim leader Roberto Micheletti had refused to meet but held separate talks with Costa Rican President Oscar Arias.

Correspondents say the former allies' positions remain far apart.

Good...there can be no compromise with a marxist tyrant wanna-be.

The people of Honduras know that the blow against liberty and republican principle was being planned and carried out by Zelaya himself as he tried to institute a referendum calling for changing the Honduras constitution. That referendum was illegal and not a due process under the Honduras constitution for changing the constitution.

The Supreme Court of that nation ruled against it (properly so) and the President was planning to use the Executive Branch to implement it anyway. That's when the Supreme Court and a majority of the legislature called for the military's assistance...and they gave it, in support of the Hionduras constitution which Zelaya was attempting to subvert.

And so the telling thing about what happened in Honduras is this: EVERY Marxist in the Western Hemisphere is against it, including the Marxist Obama who is arm-and-arm with his marxist friends, Chavez and Castro on this.

That tells you that what the Honduras military did at the request of its Supreme Court and w/support from its legislature was correct, and avoided a move by Marxists to circumvent the Honduran constitution and entrench marxism in Honduras.

Bravo for the Honduras Supreme Court and military...and down with Obama's marxist dogma, policies, and ideology!

Kind of like McCain's political career.

no waste here - the Hondurans can feel pride in their interim president and the world can see they won't fold even though faced with great obstacles.

Zelaya led a failed coup. The remaining two branches of government acted in accordance with their constitution to remove Zelaya from office. Because of Zelaya’s organization and supporters he was deported rather than detained in country in order to prevent him rallying his supporters to violence.

Honduras certainly expected Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez to support Zelaya, but the odd ball President Obama of the U.S. supporting Zelaya has thrown a wrench into the smooth transition of power in Honduras by enabling and energizing Zelaya’s supporters. Worse yet, after having claimed the alleged high moral ground of not interfering in another nation’s politics in regards to the Iranian elections, President Obama’s reversal of that policy toward Honduras’ internal troubles has only made Honduras’ situation worse. By choosing to directly meddle in internal Honduras affairs in favor of Zelaya’s bid for power in excess of those granted by the Honduran constitution, President Obama has in effect stifled the hopes of democratic and freedom movements throughout the world, and especially in South America, where the U.S. had previously been perceived as a spiritual ally of the democratic and freedom movements.

Sad, but that’s the way I see it.

Seems to me that, while possession normally is 90% of the law,
in this case it should be 100%.

My thoughts exactly. There is no crisis, just one would-be dictator tossed out on his ear.

There is no crisis in Honduras or any reason for them to barter with the communists pressuring them to take Zelaya back. He is no longer a citizen of Honduras and could and should be tried for treason if he comes back.

ARTICLE 42 .- The quality of citizen is lost:

1. 1. Por prestar servicios en tiempo de guerra a enemigos de Honduras o de sus aliados; For service in wartime enemies of Honduras or its allies;

2. 2. Por prestar ayuda en contra del Estado de Honduras, a un extranjero oa un gobierno extranjero en cualquier reclamación diplomática o ante un tribunal internacional; For assistance with the State of Honduras, an alien or a foreign government in any diplomatic claim or before an international tribunal;

3. 3. Por desempeñar en el país, sin licencia del Congreso Nacional, empleo de nación extranjera, del ramo militar o de carácter político; To play in the country, without license from the National Congress, employment of foreign nation, or military branch of a political nature;

4. 4. Por coartar la libertad de sufragio, adulterar documentos electorales o emplear medios fraudulentos para burlar la voluntad popular; For the freedom to vote, electoral documents adulterate or use fraudulent means to circumvent the popular will;

5. 5. Por incitar, promover o apoyar el continuismo o la reelección del Presidente de la República; y, Incite, encourage or support the continuity or re-election of President of the Republic, and

6. 6. Por residir los hondureños naturalizados, por más de dos años consecutivos, en el extranjero sin previa autorización del Poder Ejecutivo. Naturalized Honduran resident for more than two consecutive years abroad without prior approval of the Executive.

En los casos a que se refieren los numerales 1) y 2), la declaración de la pérdida de la ciudadanía la hará el Congreso Nacional mediante expediente circunstanciado que se forme al efecto. In the cases referred to in paragraphs 1) and 2) the declaration of loss of citizenship will file the National Congress through circumstances that formed for the purpose. For the cases of paragraphs 3) and 6) That the statement made by the Executive Government Agreement, and for the cases of subparagraphs 4) and 5) also by governmental agreement, after the sentence handed down by courts.

It is easier to read at the link.

The political crisis could end tomorrow if Zelaya would politely step aside - since they’re not arresting him and trying him for treason I think he should be pleased with getting off so easily.

Tried for treason? The Honduran military will put a nicely placed bullet in his head.

Now that wouldn't be legal. Satisfying though. ;^)

Seriously, Honduras has upheld the rule of law so well, almost text book, they shouldn't stray from that now.
