Sotomayor Enters Confirmation Process with Miers-Like Numbers (opposition fiercer than Bork's)

Sonia Sotomayor will begin her confirmation hearings next week with some of the highest levels of public opposition of any Supreme Court nominee in the last two decades, according to a new poll by the CNN and the Opinion Research Corporation.

In fact, only one nominee had a higher level of opposition: Harriet Miers, who was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2005. Miers later withdrew her nomination under questions about her qualifications from both the political left and right.

Forty-seven percent of respondents to the poll say they would like to see the U.S. Senate vote to confirm Sotomayor versus forty-percent who say they would not. In the final CNN poll taken before Miers withdrew her nomination, forty-three percent of respondents said the Senate should oppose her confirmation.

No other recent nominee, not even Robert Bork, whose own nomination under President Ronald Reagan was scuttled, faced public opposition this severe.

In the last poll taken during the Bork confirmation fight, thirty-eight percent wanted to see him confirmed versus thirty-five percent who did not. All other nominees polled by CNN—Clarence Thomas, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, John Roberts and Samuel Alito—enjoyed wide margins of public support. Interestingly, independents are split down the middle on Sotomayor. Forty-two percent believe she should be confirmed. Forty-one percent believe she should not be confirmed. The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey was conducted from June 26 to 28, with 1,026 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey’s sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

TOPICS: Constitution/Conservatism; Extended News; Government; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: sotomayor
Repubs should come out swinging and present a list of preeminently qualified Hispanic candidates. Soto's nomination shouldn’t even get out of Committee.

THE TIME IS NOW TO DEMAND OBO PULL THE SOTO NOM: Call Congress switchboard: 202-225-3121 (to reach Senate offices).

MESSAGE TO SENATORS: Americans are sending the word across the land: "Sotomayor's rulings shows she would make policy through the court. The US Constitution precludes judges from making laws. It is understandable that Americans are apprehensive: Sotomayor and her crowd are colluding to exert raw power over the majority---to turn the US into a failed Third World satrap. These racialists do not understand a sophisticated superpower----a democracy governed by the rule of law, based on three co-equal branches of government."

END MESSAGE Any Senator who votes to confirm Sotomayor risks his/her reelction chances.

ACTION Every senator should get 10-15,000 calls from Americans. America will thank Repubs (and others) for ditching this racialist nominee. Even with Dems in control, 10-15,000 calls could make a difference.....this is an issue that cuts across party lines. Ask Hillary who lost a primary b/c she endorsed licenses for illegals.

IS YOUR REPUBLICAN SENATOR A JUDIDCIARY COMMITTEE MEMBER? Jeff Sessions, Orrin G. Hatch,Charles E. Grassley, Jon Kyl Lindsey Graham,John Cornyn, Tom Coburn.

MESSAGE TO REPUB JUDIDCIARY COMMITTEE SENATORS: Republican members of the Judiciary Committee should utitilize Rule 1V (Rule IV states, “The Judiciary Chairman shall entertain a non-debatable motion to bring a matter before the Committee to a vote. If there is objection to bring the matter to a vote without further debate, a roll call vote of the Committee shall be taken, and debate shall be terminated if the motion to bring the matter to a vote without further debate passes with ten votes in the affirmative, one of which must be cast by the minority.”

Law professor Michael Dorf, law professor at Cornell University and a former clerk to Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, explains that the Senate Judiciary Committee's Rule IV means that one member of the minority party must agree for a matter to be brought to a vote. Otherwise the matter will NOT be voted on.

=====================================

FOR FUTURE REFERENCE Sotomayor and her crowd are clearly unprepared and ill-equipped to exist under US democracy----within a world-class superpower that operates under the rule of law.

Case after case clearly shows illiterate invaders, MS-13 gangs, and their savage cadres, are America-haters, invading the US to kill Americans (the brutal machete slaughter of three Black Newark teens comes to mind). The FBI reports El Salvador's brutal MS-13 gangs saturating the US, have killed more US citizens than Al Quada killings all over the world.

It appears that illiterate natives from poverty-stricken hovels are being coached by corrupt Third World governments----gov't juntas that rule by military force. Even more disturbing, Third World military juntas are attempting to undermine US justice. Third World juntas demanded last year, that the US Attorney suspend deportations of marauding latino criminals on US soil who are killing and maiming Americans. This presages the Third World they intend to build on US soil.

We're looking at primitive, illiterate Third Worlders more accustomed to military juntas patrolling the streets in camouflage and shoulder holsters....these people are armed with a savage determination to take-back the SW (reconquista) by forming fraudulent voting blocs, using any means possible---means that are patently illegal. Clearly, the invaders are way out of their element----unable to circum-navigate a complex and sophisticated world-class superpower, one that is governed by the rule of law. Lawbreaking is not tolerated here. People like Sotomayor would suspend our laws in the pursuit of their racialist agendas.

FINAL MESSAGE----Demand Senators call the White House switchboard 202 456-1111; urge Obo to withdraw the Soto nomination.

And the La Raza bombers in Colorado back in her early days with that organization ~ what did she know and when did she know it?

Fur Shur Obama knows ~ he likes bombers ~ particularly those who are so reckless they use poor designs that go off in their own hands. So we know that he knows that she knows and it's time for some answers.

What’s fierce about it. All we have been told since she entered the scene is how all the Congress critters are going to vote for her.

Being a member of La Raza should be all that is necessary to disqualify her for sitting as a judge in any court!

That organization is far more raist than the KKK.

For the race everything, for everyone else nothing!

It’s a done deal, the American people should have known that she would be coming forward months ago, if not her, someone identical to her. The American people deserve her! So the innocent must suffer loss.

She's been a long time coming. Read on.

By Ann Coulter
HUMAN EVENTS---Vol. 53 Issue 39, p 11,
17 OCTOBER 1997
PROBABLE CAUSE FOR REJECTING JUDGE SOTOMAYOR (Sotomayor was then on the Clinton's fast track to the Supreme Court)

SOTOMAYOR'S ACTUAL WORDS FROM THE BENCH, SENTENCING ADMITTED DRUG DEALER Louis Gomez (a noncitizen), who pleaded guilty to dealing cocaine:

“[I]t is in some respects a great tragedy for our country that instead of permitting you to serve a lesser sentence and rejoin your family at an earlier time I am required by law to give you the statutory minimum. ... [W]e all understand that you were in part a victim of the economic necessities of our society, unfortunately there are laws that I must impose. “Louis Gomez, yours is the tragedy of our laws and the greatest one that I know. ... the one our congressmen never thought about and don’t think about. ... “It is no comfort to you for me to say that I am deeply, personally sorry about the sentence that I must impose, because the law requires me to do so. The only statement I can make is this is one more example of an abomination being committed before our sight. You do not deserve this, sir.”

====================================================

Nelson Castellanos was arrested in NYC outside his Harlem apartment, charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine. He was holding his keys and a white shopping bag containing about $10,000, mostly in $1 and $20 bills. That evening, pursuant to a warrant, DEA personnel searched his apartment and found over 1,200 grams of cocaine, six live rounds of ammunition, a .44 caliber revolver and incriminating notebooks. All this evidence was thrown out by District Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor on the grounds that the DEA agents had not provided the magistrate with probable cause to search Castellanos's apartment.

================================================

Obama says he wants an "empathetic" justice. When he talks about "judges with empathy," these decisions are what Obama means. QUESTION Did Sotomayor ever "empathize" with a gun owner or a middle-class white woman? More likely her empathy is limited to to liberal Democarat victim groups and voting blocs Dems need for relection and campaign contributions.
