Tomorrow Pope Benedict XVI and President Barack Obama meet for the first time, an affair much anticipated and in some circles frowned upon by American Catholics in the wake of Obama's controversial Notre Dame commencement speech in May.
Conservatives in the church denounced Obama's appearance as a nod by the premier Catholic university to a conciliatory politics that heralds the start of a slippery moral slope.

Given that 53%+ of US Catholics voted for Barack Obama, and knowing that on most issues he disagrees with the pontiff, I think this headline is pretty accurate.
If US Catholics had voted like US evangelicals (74% for McCain), we would have President McCain and never had Roland Burris as a US Senator.
Cafeteria Catholics?
A large portion of that 53% aren’t practicing Catholics. I’m willing to bet that most don’t know what date the Immaculate Conception is celebrated.

Obama’s having trouble choosing a church in Washington. Maybe he should choose a Catholic church, on his way to becoming Pope.
