Peggy Noonan is an old fool
The GOPNation.com ^ | July 10, 2009 | The GOPNation.com

The Wall Street Journal's Peggy Noonan, who famously wrote for President Ronald Reagan but slowly become a RINO thanks to spending way too much time in the Beltway (see this embarrassing clip of Ms. Noonan from September of last year declaring the GOP dead meat) is no longer a must-read.

In her post today, she bashes Sarah Palin one final time, just to make sure that the almost former Alaskan governor knows what the main streamers think about her and her policies.

Among the pathetic quotes:

Her history does not need to be rehearsed at any length. Ten months ago she was embraced with friendliness by her party. The left and the media immediately overplayed their hand, with attacks on her children. The party rallied round, as a party should. She went on the trail a sensation but demonstrated in the ensuing months that she was not ready to go national and in fact never would be. She was hungry, loved politics, had charm and energy, loved walking onto the stage, waving and doing the stump speech. All good. But she was not thoughtful. She was a gifted retail politician who displayed the disadvantages of being born into a point of view (in her case a form of conservatism; elsewhere and in other circumstances, it could have been a form of liberalism) and swallowing it whole: She never learned how the other sides think, or why.

In television interviews she was out of her depth in a shallow pool. She was limited in her ability to explain and defend her positions, and sometimes in knowing them. She couldn't say what she read because she didn't read anything. She was utterly unconcerned by all this and seemed in fact rather proud of it: It was evidence of her authenticity. She experienced criticism as both partisan and cruel because she could see no truth in any of it. She wasn't thoughtful enough to know she wasn't thoughtful enough. Her presentation up to the end has been scattered, illogical, manipulative and self-referential to the point of self-reverence. "I'm not wired that way," "I'm not a quitter," "I'm standing up for our values." I'm, I'm, I'm.

It's about time that those that claim to be Republicans stop throwing water into their own boats and concentrate on defeating the Democrats. Until then, we will remain in the wilderness.

Yes.

I find the attacks on Peggy Noonan here over the top. I also find the attacks on Palin in the media over the top. Let's disagree with specific statements or behavior, not start general bashing and silly name calling. There are things I agree with Noonan and there are things I disagree with her. Same with Palin. Overall, I like Palin and felt her more qualified that Obama/McCain for president. But I also disagreed how she handled Bristol's pregnancy and her parading the disgusting Levi at the convention was not the right thing to do.

I’m talking about Noonan not Palin. Noonan can take a long walk off a short pier as far as I’m concerned.

I'm talking about FReepers, not about either of these ladies.

I like Palin just fine, until folks start touting her as a qualified presidential candidate. She is not ready for that ... not by miles.

What's interesting is the FReeper response to any pundit -- and often any FReeper -- who takes the trouble to point that out. The vehemence of the reaction is just plain weird.

Dang right it’s not. And that is enough for me to never take anything she says seriously again. Even if she happens to say something I agree with I won’t trust her motive for saying it.

OK.

Consider the immediate responses in these two threads: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2288308/posts or http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2288216/posts

No discussion of the specific comments at all; just venom about the author of same. Some of the FReepers on those threads are laughably unhinged.

There are thousands of freepers. How can you make a blanket commendation of a diverse group like that?

Please give me a single incident that could occur in which a President Palin would not be not able to handle or solve?

What's interesting is the FReeper response to any pundit -- and often any FReeper -- who takes the trouble to point that out. The vehemence of the reaction is just plain weird.

No, what is interesting is yourself and those who share your opinion that Palin isn't "ready" for the Presidency when people such as Thomas Sowell and Fred Malek passionately think she is. So, are they wrong about her and r9etb and apocalypto right?

Noonan was, for a very short period of time one of many writers in the Reagan White House. As for the speeches she claims credit for one should take that claim with a healthy dose of salt. Any reading of RWR writing would show that the ideas and presentation manner originated solely with him. WH speech writers are there to facilitate the president’s idea and philosophy, not to originate it.

As far as her party affiliation and commitment to those ideals, I find little evidence of it. After Reagan’s last term she was seeking work, burdened with her Reagan adminisitration label in a hostile liberal marketplace.

For whatever reasons, she has chosen to play the role of the designated GOP apostate to earn her living and have her ego stroked. Were she to repent, she would be frozen out of work and her social contracts. The liberal establishment tolerates her only as the vocal apostate and not for her writing skills, past or present.

Dante ascribed the ninth circle of hell to traitors. Peggy Noonan has placed her down payment on her final abode.

Not saying how it’s work but Palin could announce ‘’If you’d vote for me in 2012, vote GOP in 2010.’’ Might cause a lot of RATS to leave the ship.

"What’s wrong with saying Palin should know how the other side thinks?"

I can't ask Peggy so I would love to ask you... what makes you think Palin doesn't know what the other side thinks? I am just curious because I can't think of a specific example where Palin would leave you with this impression.

As far as the rest of Peggy's article, I am left thinking what is it about Palin that Noona fears? I believe what you HATE the most, you FEAR the most.

Peggy seems to look down on Palin and I wonder why? Peggy can't be looking down on her because Palin is a "country-club Republican." Sarah Palin resembles more the "common man" who is not rich similar to the family Peggy Noonan hailed from back in New Jersey.

But Sarah Palin is:

-Rich in spirit

-Rich in love

-Rich in courage

-Rich in honesty

-Rich in heart

Peggy Noonan's envy and resentment seem inauthentic and even cynical in her article. I don't believe Peggy Noonan is a Republican so I don't understand why at the end of her article she uses the word "we."

Not only is she an old fool, but she's a preening old fool.

She needs to shut up and go away.

Oh, come on, come on, come on, come on!

Didn’t I make you feel like you were the only one - yeah!

Didn’t I give you nearly everything that a I possibly can? GOP, you know I did!
And each time I tell myself that I, well I think I’ve had enough,
But I’m gonna show you, baby, that a citizen can be tough.

I want you to come on, come on, come on, come on and take it,
Take it!
Take another little piece of my freedom, baby!
Oh, oh, break it!
Break another little bit of my heart now, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, oh, have a!
Have another little piece of my life now, baby,
You know you got it if it makes you feel good,
Oh, yes indeed.

You’re out on the socialist street looking good,
And baby deep down in your heart I guess you know that it
ain’t right,
Never, never, never, never, never, never hear me when I cry,
Babe, I cry all the time!
And each time I tell myself that I, well I can’t stand the
pain,
But when you hold me in your arms, I’ll sing it once again.

I’ll say come on, come on, come on, come on and take it!
Take it!
Take another little piece of my freedom now, baby.
Oh, oh, break it!
Break another little bit of my life, yeah,
Oh, oh, have a! Have another little
piece of my heart now, baby,
You know you got it, commie, if it makes you feel good.
