Can't help myself. This kind of crap fills my inbox every morning.

But the writer has a point. We should steer clear of Obama's children. They can't help it if their old man is an American-hating Marxist pig.

And I'm sure the left really means no harm to Sarah Palin's children. Thank God for the love and basic human decency displayed by TRUE Democrats.

I don’t remember reading any of those comments directed at Malia. Maybe Michelle but not Malia. But then I wasn’t on every thread yesterday.

"The truth is that conservatives do not know the meaning of Jesus' words despite how much they love to use them when it suits their inner hatred of all those who are different. Worse, they lack basic human decency, as they demonstrate time and again."

Liberals generally not only know nothing about what is involved in living the Christian life, but could care less what it involves except when it comes to passing judgment on how well others are doing at it.

Yes, racist humor does appear sometimes on FR, and although I'm not racist I have to say I can understand the appeal of it to some degree in today's climate.

As someone who does happen to know a thing or two about the real challenges of living the Christian life in a fallen, self-aggrandizing, self-righteous liberal-dominated culture, I can understand the impulsive appeal to take a jab back at those who lecture us on our hypocrisy as if having standards and failing to always live up to them is somehow inferior to having no standards but whatever makes them feel good for the moment.

People such as those who congregate at DailyKos could learn a lot, as a group, from those who congregate at FR about equality and real social justice.

This high-and-mighty righteous indignation is nothing more than another thinly veiled attempt to discredit and/or censure all effective challenges to liberal monopoly on thought and values.

Who wouldn't be tempted to poke fun at a first family that was foisted upon us BECAUSE of their skin color more than anything else, while those raising them up are breaking their arms patting themselves on the back for supposedly rising above judging others based on skin color?

Talk about hypocrisy and hatred.

If you really want to see those traits in their concentrated form, look at the liberal sites--DailyKos, DemocraticUnderground, etc--NOT Free Republic.

Jim, I think the writer has a very good point. People seem to be feeling more and more free to post things here that are difficult to explain as anything other than racism or, perhaps, excessive racial insensitivity. There is plenty to complain about with Obama without going into his race. And while I'd personally leave them alone, there are legitimate complaints that can be made about his wife or daughters without going into their looks or race. And the black jokes, pictures from old black sitcoms, and cracks that rely on black stereotypes applied ot Obama and his family just look horrible and simply feed the stereotypes that conservatives are racist, even if the intent was harmless. Maybe you don't notice the curious runs of articles about black on white crime, the particularly nasty attacks on Michelle Obama's looks, or the generic black stereotype comments being tossed out there but it sure looks like a concerted racist against blacks at times to me.

To be fair to Free Republic, though, the Report Abuse button works and the moderators have been very good at pulling comments and even threads where the content or source was questionable. Further, it's been my experience that a concerted effort to challenge the racially charged comments usually result in those making them scurrying back under their rocks.

But if you want to know what sort of harm this can do, I suggest remembering how Jerome Corsi's credibility was harmed by some comments he made here and how easy it would be to make guilt-by-association attacks if the our opponents can make a credible case that Free Republic is a racist site or at least condones racism. Because "conservatives are racists" is already the prevailing stereotype, that means we won't be given the benefit of the doubt and anything that seems to fit that stereotype is going to be assumed to be racist. And if the best conservatives can do is, "Look at Obama and his family! They're black! Haw, haw!", then we're going to have 8 years of him.

People who engaged in these personal attacks about a kid should get a time out. I don’t care what the leftists do, there has to be standards on how people conduct themselves. Your site, your standards but it makes it hard to listen to people around here complain about how the Bush twins and Palin family have been treated in the past when stuff like these comments are posted.

Before you dismiss this as only a minority of posters at the site, out of 100 posts on that thread I found only 1 that criticized such remarks. This is not the first time I have seen such an exhibition of blatant racism at Free Republic by members who regularly post there.

Malia was introduced into the public arena by her parents and the peace symbol on her shirt. How is it the left can make fun of Palin’s kids but 0bama’s are off limits?

There’s a line.

Mom and Dad had a look at what their 10 year old (!) daughter was going to where in public during a G8 summit.

Who’s to blame here? If I’m her dad, my position is, “Find a dress and where it. You can’t go out in that. Not today, and not during this summit.”

If Obama wants the kids to be off limits, he should refrain from making political statements with them.

What’s next a Che Guevara T-shirt?

Between $6K handbags and ‘No-Nukes’ statments with the kids clothes, you can’t claim that the fashion of the First Family doesn’t mean anything, and that people shouldn’t read anything into it.

Is it a given that only Conservatives post at a Conservative site?

This writer made some generalizations regarding Conservatives and Christians that indicates a mind stuck in liberal group think mode.

Interesting that the writer honed in on that thread. How many posts to that thread? Has the writer read any of the prayer threads here at FR, or lengthy threads demonstrating the very best of Conservative principles? Why not judge the site by posts on those threads rather than a small thread with a concentration of ugly remarks?

I posted on that thread...didn’t read all the posts. I said something to the effect that on a scale of 1-10 I’d give 11 year old Malia a 10 for knowing as much as her daddy about achieving peace.

I don’t consider that an attack on the child. I consider that an attack on her daddy’s actions.

I don’t think the kids should be attacked. But, Mom and Dad had some say in whether or not an 11 yr. old should wear those T-shirts in that particular venue. They know the history of the message being sent, even if the child may not, and only thinks it looks cool.

Commenting on that should be fair game. Attacking any child should be off limits, but try telling that to those who bash the children of Conservatives and Republicans.

Understanding the truly low-brow comments to be out of order, I have to protest the idea that this girl should not be critiqued on her public political statements when it is she who allowed the situation to occur by being fully cognizant of the power of the press, she used the media to do so. If she didn't know what she was doing, the article would not have been written as it was.

This was not an instance of "she can't help who her father is", not when she wore the shirt to deliberately make a point and used the press to assist her.

A few here have reminded us that the thread was about a peace symbol on not one but two T-shirts sported by the president's eldest daughter.

A display photographed in company of allied heads of state (and an unnamed street thug look alike) and shown world wide; apparently sanctioned by her parents, and at a time when our troops are engaged with an enemy that plants &%*#.. BOMBS on kids younger than she is!

To my possibly over stressed mind: that's worthy of comment and the comment ain't likely to be nice.

The display was stupid, for the parents to allow or encourage it was crass. The overall look WAS ghetto, or maybe trailer trash, or maybe just disrespectful; pick one.

Our fashion icon of a first lady stands out like a barber poll at the Parthenon, the kids get to make political comments that their daddy has to keep bottled up inside, and we look like a laughing stock.

Where I DO take offense in the FR comments under that thread is in the Yo Mama kind of "what she said" sniping that leaks into SOME commentary. These people are socialists, not high school drop outs, they are absolutely capable of saying stupid, insulting, and/or scary, things in public, usually pronounced quite adequately.

Stay away from the children. but is there an exception when they are used as pawns for political purposes. If they stick them out there they should free game in my book.

This whole idea that they should call us on the carpet is dumbfounding to me . They are such truly EVIL hypocrites. And yet we should care what they say?

I think a reply with 100 of their hypocrite posts, from their website,or their brethren at DU should be the only reply.

That is all the evil b@$tards are due!

Jim... If this guy wants to play tit for tat,
he’s going to lose BIG TIME. Daily Kos is
saturated with vehement, racist remarks about
Palin’s children, the Bush family, etc. A gold
mine has just been handed to Free Republic.

To call out FR while standing in his glass
house is just stupid!

Well said, Mr. JimRob.

The old man — and, if she weighs in on issues — the old lady are sufficiently target rich environments.

But we’ll see how the tolerant and diversity loving left behaves if and when Sarah or some other conservative starts to get under their putrid, wrinkled, boil infested, snake-like skin.

ROFLMAO!!!

Racism doesn't belong anywhere, period. However, children can and do make mistakes. Children need to learn from their mistakes. If a child goes to school wearing a 20 gallon cowboy hat and all the other kids make fun of him/her, he/she has learned a valuable lesson and he/she wasn't off limits by those very kids. Why can't we make the very same comments? If a child wears gang colors, a knife and a gun, are we not allowed to say anything negative about it?

Seriously people, you shouldn't joke about a persons race EVER. You shouldn't joke about anything remotely close to sexual or illegal activities on or about children. But the moment we say we can't judge or comment (even mean comments) is the moment we become the very thing the libtards are. I say, speak your mind. It is perfectly acceptable to make comments, discuss in public, and/or completely verbally slam someone for their behavior. It is free speech. JimRob does NOT have to allow it on FreeRepublic. That is his choice. But, we should never remove it from our lives even on the basis of "they are just children".

I can't begin to tell you how fast I would roast my child for wearing a peace shirt or something similar.

Let's remember free speech.

I don’t think these sorts of posts should be pulled. People should stand by what they said or they should withdraw their comments. Stripping their comments from the site merely excuses them from doing either one.

Of course, you know this is just tit-for-tat retaliation for the recent stories about Free Republic getting the Huffington Post to pull a thread and publicly apologize for it.

Do we know if the posters are long-timers, or agitprop by recent infiltrator posters?

I know FR's roster has grown way beyond the civil posters of the early days, especially with younger posters who may not have the same view of appropriate public discourse.

Things like this will continue to happen in a public forum that is too big to police every single thread. I guess we need to have more of us hit the abuse button when we see stuff like that?

i didn’t see that the examples cited were racist, unless it is assumed that the word “ghetto” and “whore” are exclusive to blacks. Are they?

However, some of the comments were certainly unfriendly and at times tasteless. Nothing compared to DU and MSM comments about conservs, tho.
