The Barack Obama administration is pressing states to spend more of their transportation stimulus money in poor and distressed areas.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood wrote to state governors Thursday encouraging them to allocate money they are getting from the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to economically distressed areas.
Fifty-two percent of ARRA money is earmarked for such areas. LaHood is encouraging states to fast-track stimulus money to those areas and to try to go above and beyond that threshold.
The stimulus has been slow to jump-start the national and local economies. ARRA money will fund expansions of Interstates 17 and 10 in the Phoenix area, and some will go to the Metro light rail system and other transit and road projects.
wonderful irony that the guy pushing to spend money in distressed ares is named La Hood...
lol sure is.
This is a joke. If there is no employment; why bring them in. To rob and steal?
For sure what good would it do to invest in say detroit for example that is why all the decent people left in the first place!
Reparations.
Yeah; lets put those TAXPAYER dollars in the sewer holes of inner-citys; new sidewalks to deal crack cocaine, new streets for the hookers, etc......payback to the RAT-infested ‘hoods.
The only "opportunity" afforded to the poor is the opportunity to steal from upstanding middle class folks rather that their fellow poor people.
Exactly. There’s nothing to invest in; at least the way the Lefties want to force us to. They aren’t investing in the people or America; only their agenda of destroying America.
