WASHINGTON -- The drive to remake the nation's health care system suffered yet another setback in Congress on Thursday when a pivotal group of House Democrats rebelled against leadership-backed legislation taking shape and sought additional time to make changes.
"We need to slow down and do it right," Rep. Mike Ross, D-Ark., said outside a meeting of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of 52 moderate to conservative Democrats. "It needs to do a much better job of cost containment" within the health care system, he added.
Other lawmakers said they were concerned about proposed tax increases, the rules on any government-sold insurance, and other issues that are key to implementing President Barack Obama's call for sweeping legislation.
Ross said the group was drafting a letter to the Democratic leadership asking for additional time. Although he did not specify how much time, he said he believes no vote should take place until the fall well after a midsummer informal deadline set by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“Blue Dog Coalition” leave the DARK side, come to the light...
And where were all of them, when they were dealing with “Cap-and-Trade” legislation, among all other “pro-leftist” legislation?
Ike Skelton (D) 4th District, MO., said he voted for C&T to protect farmers...
The rats are jumping ship! they know -7bama is sinking faster than the titanic.
Ross is a weasel. He voted against Cap and Trade but was nowhere in the news against it like Sheets Byrd in the Senate.
Cap and Trade will strangle the South Arkansas economy. Ross should have fallen on his sword and revolted against Pelosi on that one.
I hope it bites him next year. He is such a weasel.
man, the GOP is so scattered right now over Palin, what can we offer them
we’re having a civil war in the GOP
it’s the Sarah and the GOP voters versus the GOP moderates that the media love trying to hold onto to power
My own personal Blue Dog, the detestable Patrick Murphy, Pelosi’s obedient lap dog and boy toy, did his duty and voted for crap and trade. He will do the same for Obamacare.
He’s not even honest enough to admit that he’s the liberal that he actually is.
I also think that Sarah Palin will start up a new third party, the TEA party, and will be joined by a boatload of conservative Republicans, and much new blood. We will have a two party system, but Democrats won't be a part of it.
In the end, that is what they are-lap dogs at the trough.
I ma hoping Pelosi can lose her re-election bid. A talented lady is going against her.
...Unless the rats are using this alleged coalition to game the populace into believing that the final bill, having been "approved" by "conservative Democrats," isn't so bad after all. Gee! Whaddaya know?
The state run newsrooms will do whatever they can to help.
