This thread has just added to the
FreeRepublic "bang list" (firearms interest list) by adding the keyword "banglist".
Any time a firearms-related thread is created on FreeRepublic, please be sure to add the "banglist" keyword to it so that interested FReepers don't miss it. Just a suggestion.

Authorities say a bullet from a gun that was accidentally dropped injured a Tampa woman sitting in a bathroom stall. And to think it annoys me when they simply stink up the place...This is likely a bit worse.

There’s a CCW license that’s going to be repealed. “Loaded” but not locked.

Did she crap herself when the gun went off?

Bliss was sitting on the toilet in a hotel bathroom when a woman in the next stall accidentally let her handgun slip out of her waist holster. The weapon discharged when it hit the ground.
Police say the gun belonged to 56-year-old Debra Monce who has a concealed weapons permit.
The case has been referred to the State Attorney's Office to determine if any charges will be filed.

It would be nice to know the make of the handgun. Not many modern models will fire when dropped. Maybe a 1911 with the hammer down?

Can’t imagine what kind of modern firearm would go bang when it hit the floor.
More likely the lady saw it slipping away and made a snatch for it.
Does anyone know Florida’s history on things like this? Charges? Loss of CCW?

I want to know what type of handgun.....I dropped my P3AT Keltec recently and my life flashed before my eyes.....Started carrying my 10mm after the Akron, OH story (50-1 attack) recently....nothing like a 1911 style safety.

ELAINE: 3 squares? you can't spare 3 squares??
JANE: No I don't have a square to spare, I can't spare a square.
ELAINE: Oh is it two-ply? cause it it's two-ply I'll take one ply, one ply, one, one puny little ply, I'll take one measly ply.
JANE: Look, I don't have a square and I don't have a ply (flushing and leaving)
ELAINE: No no, no no, don't don't, I beg you!

I was wondering the same thing. Unless the weapon was of an ancient design, I can’t see guns of today being sold without proper safety features in the design.
Even cellphones are dropped a couple of thousand times to test for reliability.

That was exactly my first thought.
It’s either a very cheap handgun (think Jensen Arms); a 1911 without a (passive) firing pin safety; or a really old design. Otherwise, it could be operator error: she tried to catch the gun as it fell and got her finger inside the trigger guard.

The question needs to be asked. Why wasn’t the safety on to keep it from firing in the first place?
