LA police chief: Jackson investigation might turn criminal
By Deutsche Presse Agentur
His statements Thursday to CNN were the clearest indication yet that some of the many doctors who treated Jackson over the years could have helped him illegally get the prescription drugs that were suspected of being a factor in his death.
Bratton's comments came as the Jackson family was waiting for the results of the pop star's official autopsy and the independent autopsy that were conducted shortly after his June 25 death.
"We are still awaiting corroboration from the coroner's office as to cause of death," Bratton told CNN. "That is going to be very dependent on the toxicology reports that are due to come back, and based on those, we will have an idea of what it is we are dealing (with): Are we dealing with a homicide or are we dealing with accidental overdose?"
Jackson's doctors have been issued subpoenas for his medical records as investigators try to figure out how Jackson got hold of the large quantities of prescription drugs that were in his possession at the time of his death.
Meanwhile, a family split over where to bury Jackson is delaying the funeral of the late "King of Pop," ABC News reported.
Mystery has surrounded the burial plans since Jackson's casket was whisked to a secret location after his globally televised memorial service Tuesday.
The ABC report said Jackson's body was returned to the Forest Lawn memorial home in Los Angeles while the family sorts out the burial imbroglio.
Jackson's brothers were determined to get permission to bury him at his Neverland estate outside Los Angeles. But his mother, Katherine Jackson, wants to find an alternative resting place that honours Jackson's wish made after he was acquitted of child molestation charges in 2005 never to return to that home.
Jackson's brothers have already begun the lengthy process of obtaining permits to bury Jackson at Neverland, according to the report, but local officials said they have not had any contact with the Jackson family regarding the burial.
Jackson's supporters, meanwhile, appeared to have an uphill battle ahead of them to get him declared an "American legend" in an official congressional resolution.
House Resolution 600 praises the work and life of the singer of such hits as "Thriller" and "Beat It," "honouring an American legend and musical icon," and was proposed by Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, a Democrat from Los Angeles who also spoke at Jackson's memorial.
But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi condemned the idea, saying it would disrespect Jackson by raising the controversies that haunted his later life.
"Michael Jackson was a great, great performer," Pelosi told reporters at her weekly press conference, saying a resolution would be a distraction and "would open up two contrary views" on Jackson's life.
Pelosi was speaking days after Representative Peter King, a Republican from New York's Long Island, blasted the media coverage of Jackson and called the performer a "pervert" and a "paedophile."
It's a sickness that can be fixed with just a few elections...
I didn't mean anything personal with this. I'm just sick of hearing about that hideous creep.
Your United States representatives insist that it DOESN'T!

I stopped thinking of them as “my” Representatives a long time ago.
And there ya have it. (My recent response to a number of things...)
IIRC, Jackson-Lee “represents” Houston, Tx ?
He WAS repeat WAS a true American pervert, admitted pedophile, and freak. Thank God he's dead. BTW, he's STILL dead.
Unfortunately, in more ways than one. Can I get a heck yeah? Heck yeah...
Where will Sheila Jackson Lee show up next?
Michael Jackson's memorial service the latest stop for Houston Democrat known for making her way into the picture

Shocked to see Texas U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee join the star-studded memorial tribute to Michael Jackson earlier this week? Probably not if youre from Houston.
The congresswoman, who represents the 18th District, has a reputation in her hometown for, lets say, making herself available to speak at events, occasions, funerals particularly when cameras are nearby.
Just a few days earlier, in her signature braid, Jackson Lee stood alongside Beyoncé at her pre-concert press-conference to address hunger both women grinning for the cameras while holding boxes of Hamburger Helper.
And around here, Jackson Lee is known for her frequent appearances at the farewell services of those well-known or made famous by the manner of their deaths.
When Judge Andrew Jefferson died in December 2008, Jackson Lee spoke at funeral even though it was well known they werent fond of each other.
Politicalwire blogger Taegan Goddard wondered aloud if Jackson was a professional eulogist.
Apparently the congresswoman has a history of making cameo appearances at funerals and even has staffers cull the obituaries to find funerals at which she then requested to speak, Goddard wrote yesterday.
So it wasnt exactly a surprise when she took the stage on Tuesday for Michael Jacksons public memorial at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Still, her presence left some publicly questioning her motives on the Web and on the phone.
The most dangerous place on Earth: between Sheila Jackson Lee and a camera/microphone, wrote blogger Ed Truitt.
Sheila Jackson Lee has never met a camera she didnt like..., posted @arthurjuarez
Indeed, it was strange to see a Texas politician among the Hollywood crowd that included Smokey Robinson, Earvin Magic Johnson and Brooke Shields.
So how did a politician from Texas get a grab at the microphone at the service for the California-based King of Pop?
Jackson Lee declined to discuss the matter with the Chronicle today. Earlier, she told political Web news outlet Politico, that she decided to go (after originally planning not to) when Michael Jacksons brother Jermaine, touched by her resolution, called to offer a personal invitation.
When asked specifically about Jackson Lees appearance at the service, Jesse Derris, a spokesman for the Jackson camp, declined to corroborate that version.
Were not going to discuss the internal process except to say that the Jackson family made the final decision on each participant, he said.
In all fairness, Washington insiders point out that Jackson Lee did have a relationship with Michael Jackson. She was one of the few members of Congress who agreed to meet with him and be photographed with him at a news conference during Jacksons 2004 visit to Capitol Hill to promote HIV/AIDS awareness.
Still, its worth noting that no other elected officials most notably those from the state of California, where Jackson lived made remarks.
Whatever they were, Jackson Lees motives are all but moot now. House Speaker Nancy Pelosis statement Thursday morning in opposition to a congressional resolution to honor Michael Jackson have made it all but dead in the water.
That is, perhaps, until the next high-profile, camera-garnering occasion arises.

Sounds like the brothers have a business venture in mind. I wonder how many other people lived off Michael Jackson.
What I always think of when SJL’s name comes up (other than her hurricane naming scheme) is how she could not find one good word to say about George W. Bush, but come the night of the State of the Union address, there she was, first in the chamber to get the best aisle seat so she could be on tv and be seen shake that loathesome hand. She’s an attention hog along the lines of Arriana Huffington.
I have to wonder why , if he was supposed to be such a ‘good dad’ to his kids he let himself become hopelessly addicted the the plethora of drugs he was using? And surrounded by Nation of Islam thugs as security that let it happen behind closed doors . If his kids knew , why did they let him?
Even an 11 year old can be a potent force if she had just spoken up. Nobody did and now daddy is dead and his legacy
will be that of a degenerate reprobate .
Poor kids , they should have kicked daddy’s ass more !
And just when Mc D's named a new burger after him.
The Jako
It's a 50 yr old patty between two 12 yr old buns.
LOL. :o)
That’s a big fat lie.

Now, insurance takes care of it...etc. And his stuff is selling like wildfire.
Michael Jackson is worth more dead than he was alive...and a lot of people knew that.
yes..I am sure it has BEN awhile since the LAPD had such a THRILLER of a case. The suspect could be BLACK OR WHITE or a MAN IN THE MIRROR. (Man I am bored today at work)
I can’t stand Jackson-Lee, but unlike your thread heading (which is NOT the correct title), she got one thing right...in THIS country, we are presumed INNOCENT, unless PROVEN guilty.
