1. Fear of federal intrusion into everyone's lives
2. Fear of a new assault weapons ban worse than Clinton's
3. Fear that a new American Revolution is coming
4. Fear of a general societal chaos.

As for the third, I was at the Dayton, Ohio Tea Party on July 3. One speaker read the beginning paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence. The BIG applause line was "That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, " with the most cheering for "abolish". It was certainly eye opening when a gathering of largely middle aged suburban people are cheering the idea of abolishing the current government.
