Female Senators Stand Up for Sotomayor; Witness List for Hearing Released
Roll Call ^ | July 9, 2009 | Jessica Brady

Posted on 07/09/2009 11:34:30 AM PDT by yoe

A trio of female Senators tried to rally support for Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor on Thursday, but they dismissed the need for outside women’s groups to get involved in the confirmation process, which kicks off next week.

“Things are going well. There’s no need to get involved,” Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said during a press conference, also attended by Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.).

Women’s groups have been largely absent from the public debate over Sotomayor, who is just the third woman appointed to serve on the nation’s highest court, and if confirmed, would be one of only two females on the bench. Sotomayor also is the first Latina nominated to the Supreme Court.

Boxer said women’s groups who support abortion rights and advocate on behalf of other issues affecting women don’t need to publicly express their support of Sotomayor. Still, Boxer warned that “foul play” in the form of Republican-led delay tactics would prompt supportive women’s organizations to make a push for the nominee.

Sotomayor is an activist, not a judge. She is fit only for a lower court (heaven help the person before her) or as an academician, where she would fit in nicely. There is a picture of the woman in Monday July 6, WSJ on The Outlook - A 2. Ms.Sotomayor is either taking medication that makes her look like that or the woman is taking Vodka.

Ms. Boxer also did nothing about Bill's creative use of the Oval Office nor did any women in the country. If they push this unqualified woman for the Supreme Court, they are doing all of us a disservice.

Does Sotomayor think Roe v Wade was about getting rid of unwanted members of the population?

Are there any truly conservatives in Congress that are female, either Dems or GOP?

I can’t think of any.

Maybe a gender thing.

Actually no. There was a study few years back that noted that not a single elected female ever voted to reduce government, reduce costs or provide greater freedom to the American people.

“...over Sotomayor, who is just the third woman appointed to serve on the nation’s highest court...”

I was not aware they didn’t count Souter as the third woman on the court...

Then I wonder why any conservative male or female would ever vote for a female?

Guess they keep hoping for a Maggie Thatcher again, God bless her.

Boxer Rockser is the last person I would want to stand up for my cause. Talk about a way to discredit your cause...

You don’t know.

Sotomayor has already shown herself to be racist.

"A trio of female Senators tried to rally support for Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor"

Supporting her because she fits the bill as a token for their "gender", and totally disregarding the qualifications, temperment, etc. which is what an appointment to a Judicial Post is supposed to be; not the best-qualified candidate, but vote simply because she has the correct gender?

Is this women really going to get voted in to the Supreme Court? If the vote is more than 60-40, I will be very disappointed in the Republicans who vote for her.

I’m not at all surprised that one of Sotomayor’s supporters is Senator Don’t-Call-Me-Ma’am.
