Obama's drive for climate change bill delayed By Richard Cowan Richard Cowan 20 mins ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama's push for quick action by Congress on climate change legislation suffered a setback on Thursday when the U.S. Senate committee leading the drive delayed work on the bill until September.

Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairman Barbara Boxer said her self-imposed deadline of early August for finishing writing a bill to combat global warming has been put off until after Congress returns from a recess that ends in early September.

"We'll do it as soon as we get back" from that break, Boxer told reporters. Asked if this delay jeopardizes chances the Senate will pass a bill this year, Boxer said, "Not a bit ... we'll be in (session) until Christmas, so I'm not worried about it."

But Boxer did not guarantee Congress will be able to finish a bill and deliver it to Obama by December, when he plans to attend an international summit on climate change in Copenhagen.

"I want to take this as far as we can take it (before Copenhagen). The more we do the better," Boxer said.

They are starting to worry about pushing for too much way too fast. They are reading the polls.

The more the RAT senators see Obama polls going down, the harder it will be to get them to vote for this bill.

Now, I wonder what they have in mind in thiking sometime in September things will improve toward this issue. One never knows.

Sister, you had better keep the pressure on your elected reps. They can’t pay for healthcare without a revenue generator — and that’s what this bill is all about.

They ain’t giving up...

Sounds right. They are probably hoping that the markets will go up, or that after the official unemployment number hits 10% it will go down a little.

And 2 Democrat senators who are wavering are Rockefeller and Byrd, both from West Virginia. The WV coal industry will be badly hurt by this cap and trade / cap and tax nonsense. Not sure if any other Dems. are shaky, but, could be tough to get to 60 to end a filibuster.

Even with Al Franken now in the Senate, getting 60 to end debate on this bill is iffy.

Why the rush to pass this global warming monstrosity????

The earth has been here for billions of years. The earth will still be here if Nancy Pelosi and Democrats don’t “save the planet”. They never say which planet they want to save.

They ought to delay it until September of next year so we can have the debate over the Democrat supported Cap’n Trade bill in the middle of the midterm elections.

Senator Lugar “I’d not be able to support that legislation.” - Lugar, a longtime sponsor of nonbinding Senate resolutions urging action to curb greenhouse gas emissions, said yesterday that the House bill does not meet his satisfaction. “I’d not be able to support that legislation,” he said. “Trying to describe the changes would need a catalogue.” But Lugar also said he would be following the Senate committee debate closely. “I hope they’ll be more successful,” he added. “But it appears to me initially that the House bill will not make very much difference in terms of the carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere. It’s an extraordinarily expensive bill at a time when our budget situation, the deficits we’re running, is already threatening potential inflation.”

maybe a two-pronged strategy at work...induce a temporary drop in energy prices by launching a regulatory attack on oil speculators, and then once the public sees the price drop and goes back to sleep they will slip it thru.

Classify this as...

NOT ENOUGH VOTES TO PASS

Besides, by September they can write even worse language into.  What leftist could take a pass on that?

The following is directed to Freepers who haven't donated or signed up for monthlies yet...

14% is good.  100% is better.  You know you're going to do it.  Pull the trigger!  You don't have to pay it all now.  $5 now, $25 next week, $10 later... keep the ball rolling.

Monthly donorship is a good way for us to avoid having to do the Freepathons.  Besides, it's a great way to pony up in style.
If you're on the verge of becoming a monthly donor or you think you would like to up your monthly donation a bit, has Jim got a deal for you.
Check this out.  There's an added incentive for a limited time only.  (Always wanted to type that...)

Thanks to Freepers who have been frequenting the Freepathon thread to ham it up with folks over there.  It helps to raise the visibility of the Freepathon.

Jump into the Monthly Donorship special thread too.  There are horderves, hot women with short skirts, and beer too.  Alert, the pizza just showed up!  It's a partaaaee...
Ladies, there were 15 lifeguards over there a few minutes ago.  (I'm beginning to feel a bit guilty... heh heh heh...)

Well said. They have nothing in mind accept the fact that by Sept. it could be forced down everyones throats like it or not due to Obama paying the U.N. their billions and officially signing us up for the global tax NWO crap.
If we are signed up as ONE with the world, global economy, global tax, global world... with the U.N. these bills will be a part of the insanity and zip right through via an 0bama appointed czar or two.

I work in general aviation. Obama’s Crap and Tirade Bill would end general aviation through impossible “clean energy” mandates. Obama wants to take-away my livelihood and put my family out in the street. Truly “Change you can believe in.” Clearly, more and more people are seeing through this clown’s mask of empathy. I predict Congress returning to the (undeserving) Republicans in 2010. That’s why Obama is in such a hurry.

I have made a point of calling 3 senators per day, even on weekends (leave a message). If you can't get through to theie DC office call one or all of their state offices.

I always list at least three issues I am interested in. (Actually I could list 25-39 but who's counting?) My current 3 are; 1) Cap and Trade 2) racist Sotomayor 3) Healthcare.

Other issues are the weapons reduction matter with the Russians and nuclear power and why we don't go for clean energy rather than the “dirty fuels”.

The list goes on and on. So get your phones busy and keep them busy.

Encourage Sarah to take up the banner and lead this leaderless movement.
