For the first time in more than a quarter-century, a new space vehicle will begin stacking on a mobile launch platform (MLP) at Kennedy Space Center, thanks to the hard work and dedication of an experienced team of employees from NASA and contractors United Space Alliance (USA) and Alliant Techsystems.
The Ares I-X aft skirt, which was mated to a solid fuel segment in the Rotation, Processing and Surge Facility at KSC, rolled over to the 528-foot-tall Vehicle Assembly Building, where it will be lifted and placed on the MLP in High Bay 3.

No offense but to me much of this is trying to spin using a lot of old stuff as being ‘new’.
I suppose they are lucky Emperor O-hole left Nasa any money instead of reparating it to his desired groups.
First thing I thought about the ‘solid rocket’ segment was ‘great, another vehicle they can’t turn off if there’s a problem’. Then I read they’re using Shuttle solid rocket booster segments. Wonderful.
I am sure they got a lot of pats on the back scraping parts together to attempt to get something in the air. Seeing that we are no unable to build anything close to a Saturn rocket again. Especially after Obama’s de-industrialization plan gains momentum.
I work for an Aerospace & Defense firm that provides quite a few components to the rockets and other stages.
However, we are few steps “down the food chain” from ATK & USA. Not really enough to get our sticker on the side, or even a mention on the story.
