Pelosi not thrilled about Michael Jackson resolution @ 11:44 am by Eric Zimmermann
A Congressional resolution honoring Michael Jackson isn't necessary, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said today.
Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-Tex.) introduced the legislation, H. Res. 600, shortly after Jackson's death. Jackson-Lee held up a copy of that resolution while speaking at Jackson's memorial service in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
"What I have said to my colleagues over the years, and certainly as leader and as speaker, is that there's an opportunity on the floor of the House to express their sympathy or their praise any time that they wish," Pelosi said at her press conference today. "I don't think it's necessary for us to have a resolution."
Pelosi suggested the divisive debate the resolution might bring about would be counterproductive to honoring Jackson.
"A resolution, I think, would open up to contrary views that are not necessary at this time to be expressed in association with a resolution whose purpose is quite different," Pelosi added.
The text of Jackson-Lee's resolution would officially honor Jackson's artistic and humanitarian accomplishments. To be specific, the bill
(1) recognizes Michael Jackson as a global humanitarian and a noted leader in the fight against worldwide hunger and medical crises; and
(2) celebrates Michael Jackson as an accomplished contributor to the worlds of arts and entertainment, scientific advances in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, and global food security.
Jackson's death has become a political football of sorts on Congress. In addition to Jackson-Lee's resolution, the Congressional Black Caucus held a moment of silence for the late King of Pop.
On the other hand, Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) blasted Jackson as a "pervert" and a "low-life," and Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) said he was "nauseated" by the attention Jackson's death was receiving in Congress.
Nancy, just beat it.
Bad.
or is that dangerous?
Did you know Billie Jean?
Nuancy has done gone off the reservation!
What’s the rush, Sheila...?
Sounds like she is a bit racist to me...lol
Look how black he is with the Reagan’s.
“Beat it”, Michale fans.
100% different MJ back then
Evidently they have not come to realize that Michael Jackson NEVER had an African American Wife
and
From the best that I can tell, there isn't any African American genes running through his three chosen children
How hypicritacal can one be?
You never really see pictures of MJ from the last few years on the news...always from 20 years ago.
And your point is?
barack obama construct 5000ft michael jackson memorial with his porkulus money. i wouldnt doubt it.
We certainly can't have that, now, can we?
Conservative congressmen should submit dozens of riders to the resolution, each of which should be variations of:
“...Notwithstanding M.J.’s pedophile tendencies...”
“...In spite of M.J.’s pedophile tendencies...”
“...Despite his alleged sexual abuse of young children...”
“...Acknowledging also M.J.’s alleged victims...”
etc., etc., etc.
Jackson NEVER dated a BLACK female.
He dated Brook Shields - WHITE
Married Deborah Rowe - WHITE
Close (mother figure) - to Elizabeth Taylor - WHITE
Close to (mother figure) to Diana Ross VERY LIGHT black
Clearly didn't have his kids through either party being BLACK
He married Elvis's daughter - she was WHITE
From the 80’s on his skin color finally became “Lilly white”.
Where is his love of being BLACK?
Me thinks the obvious - he HATED his skin color.
BTW, was he “neutered”? Why couldn't he contribute to his IVF babies with that HIGH VOICE of his? Hmmmm? Always grabbing his crotch - for what was left? Did Dad “neuter” him to keep that voice HIGH PITCHED when he was young th keep the bucks rolling in? I think so ... . He was terribly feminine. BTW, how can someone he LAVISHED MONEY ONHIMSELF and left this earth in DEBT be a "humanitarian"?
Details, details.
You just reminded me of liberace (sp?) and elvis’s lavish lifestyles. Who else— trump, or just the honorable mentions of the series “lifestyle of the rich and famous”, or the new mtv series, something about “cribs”? Car collectors like Jay Leno— never really thought about them all in the same lavish collectors league.
And what about joan rivers face? Oh my gosh..and the lion lady— crazy plastic surgery gone wild.I’m sure we can think of more rich eccentric folks..
About his skin color—there is a book entitled “black like me”, which was written by an author who shaved his hair, and died his skin with shoe polish, and eventually pills to darken his skin so he would pass as black to see what it was like to be black in society. Since I read that book, I often wondered why MJ didn’t take the skin darkening pills.
