Netanyahu's paranoia extends to 'self-hating Jews' Emmanuel and Axelrod

At about 3:15 P.M. yesterday, the government's 100th day in office, political correspondents' beepers went off. In an unprecedented move, the Prime Minister's Bureau was inviting the correspondents to a press conference at the Knesset that was slated to begin in 15 minutes. This was the start of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's panicked, disproportionate response to the criticism senior Kadima politicians had leveled at him three hours earlier.

Kadima MKs had attacked Netanyahu at a press conference under the banner "100 days, zero gains. It's the same old Bibi." Later, Kadima supporters handed out stickers with anti-Netanyahu slogans in the Knesset cafeteria.

Netanyahu, who - unusually - was in the cafeteria on Wednesday, got one of the stickers from his political adviser, Shalom Shlomo, and summoned ministers Yisrael Katz, Gideon Sa'ar and Gilad Erdan to a meeting. "I want to call a press conference," Netanyahu said. His colleagues tried to dissuade him, but he insisted.

However, instead of appearing at the press conference himself, he stayed in his office and sent his advisers.

An atmosphere of permanent crisis has surrounded Netanyahu's bureau ever since he took office, so it was no surprise that the press conference also had an air of panic. The five advisers - National Security Adviser Uzi Arad, cabinet secretary Zvi Hauser, director general of the Prime Minister's Office Eyal Gabai, political adviser Ron Dermer and Nir Hefetz, who heads the public relations desk - arrived at the meeting without a prearranged, uniform message. Over and over, they cut each other off.

Arad once again lambasted U.S. President Barack Obama's refusal to honor understandings reached with his predecessor, George W. Bush, on the issue of the settlements, but argued that coordination with Washington on Iran had actually improved.

This is just another left wing Ha'aretz attack on Bibi to try and make him look like a head case, but doesn't it show incredible insight on Bibi's part? He totally nailed the Obama adminstration.

Besides which, this depiction isn't believable-- does Bibi EVER come off as an out of control paranoid?

My criticism of Bibi's office is that his PR is atrocious. Try finding daily press releases or pictures of Bibi. It's hard. They do not have a main spokesman and centralized press resource like the WH has. It would be harder to undermine Bibi if he was out there more and had better representation.

If they are self-hating Jews, which they are, it is not paranoia. “Rahm hu boged.”

There certainly are liberals who hate America, or at least hate traditional America. I've always been confused by the “self hating” phenomenon for members in a group. It is so foreign to me.

I expect Americans to support America, French to support France, Jews to support Jews, Israel and Judaism, Catholics to support Catholicism, etc. One can take support for one’s group too far. I can accept a range from enthusiastc to tepid support for one's group. But outright rejection of one’s group is hard for me to conceive. Where does it come from?

Bobby Fischer had Jewish roots but became very anti-Jewish. Apparently, he fell in with the wrong crowd, one that was anti-Jewish (but not Jewish themselves). Also, he had issues with his Jewish mother. Marx and Engels became atheists and rejected their Jewish and Christian faiths, respectively, but I'm not aware that they vehemently rejected Jews and Christians.

What I have more trouble with is a community of anti-Americans, and anti-Jewish Jews. I just don'tget it.

On a possibly related note, one Freeper's tagline says that Obama rules America with disdain. That seems true to me. That would seem to be another case of self hatred (if he's a citizen).

If you don’t understand what has happened to America in the past 40 years, you haven’t been paying attention to the message that has been forced in schools and universities, which is:

America is a negative influence on the world. We are racists, bigots, selfish, have a superiority complex, are warmongers, etc. We are even killing the entire planet.

Disagreement with the above tenets causes ostracism from many groups, especially if one lives in a Blue State.

No self-hating Jews?? How else does one explain the 70+% of American Jews who voted for a candidate who made it clear that he would throw Israel into the very crowded space under his bus.

From the economy, to defense to Israel, even THIS goy understood where Obabmi was going to take us.

We’re almost there and ain’t it grand?

The university types were totally shocked by the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since then they have tried to argue that it was Gorbie was the hero of the event, that if it were not the mean-old “reactionaries: he would have turned the country into a nice social democracy. They hate the fact that the United States won the cold war and now they are delighted that Obama is working to reduce us to our proper place in the world, a little America too weak to act outside our borders.

In 2009, I would expect a smart politician to completely bypass the press and have his own blog on the internet where he lays out his positions, with video.

Just out of curiosity...where do you get this figure of 70%? I'd wager the clothes on my back that it's at least 90%.

After I wrote the previous post on this thread, I read two columns in our local Catholic newspaper of July 2nd. The first was by George Weigel, who wrote some guidelines, aka helpful hints, for Obama’s new nominee as Ambassador to the Vatican. The second, on the same page, next to the first was titled, “Genuine patriotism on the Fourth of July” and started out in the first paragraph mentioning our most patriotic holiday and all the red white and blue that is seen everywhere.

The rest of the half-page article was about how we are warmongers, spending billions on war, and not enough on the poor, etc etc etc.

Final paragraphs:
“A new, determind American dedication to end golbal misery will lead countless people throughout the world to see Americans as loving brothers and sisters instead of potential enemies, and will thus ensure the country’s security far more than a huge military could ever do.
That is genuine patriotism!”

Obviously, this author is an Obama supporter, and a hate America firster.
