Stalemate ahead of Honduras talks

Honduras's ousted president says he will demand the removal of the interim government within 24 hours during talks aimed at solving his country's crisis. Manuel Zelaya was speaking ahead of the talks in Costa Rica.

The interim government, which is also taking part, says it intends to ensure Mr Zelaya returns to Honduras to face trial for abusing the constitution.

The exiled president has the backing of world leaders, including US President Barack Obama.

Judging by the comments in advance of these talks their mediator, Costa Rica's President Oscar Arias, has an almost insurmountable challenge ahead of him. He has indicated that his intention is to solve the problem by this weekend.

More protests But both Mr Zelaya and Roberto Micheletti, the interim president of Honduras, say the issue of a return of President Zelaya to power is not negotiable.

Mr Zelaya says he has to resume the presidency. Mr Micheletti says that cannot happen.

One possible solution is a head of state without political power role for Mr Zelaya.

But it would appear that that the interim government would not agree to that, as it says he is a criminal. His supporters in Honduras are stepping up the pressure on the government.

They are expected to set up roadblocks on all routes into the capital on Thursday.

More demonstrations are also expected in the coming days by those who support the new government.

It’s great to see the Hondurans standing up to this Fidel Castro wannabe. I hope they continue to hang tough. It sounds as though they are going to.

How is that a solution?

Zelaya has nothing to offer. Ortega runs troops into the Honduras and Zelaya’s own people will eat him. Huey Chavez may try to rent another mob for a demonstration but that’s about the size of it.

Make them big, Honduras. Forget about CNN or any major news media. Twitter out your pics. Youtube your videos. Use the internet!

If you want to get to CNN/ABC/MSNBC and the like pass around their phone numbers and have tens of thousands of you call them. Burn their phone lines down.

Trust Barack to come down on the side of Castro and Chavez on this issue. Any enemy of America is a friend of Barack Obama.

He is assisted in this case by the American media that reported this constitutionally mandated removal of the ousted president as a military coup. We are in a heck of a fix in this country. Our government can’t be trusted and neither can the media. Thank God for the internet.

The only thing I would negotiate is whether he comes back in handcuffs only or in handcuffs and leg irons.

I hope they do not back down. If they give an inch they are through. Stay tough. I really respect these people. Back in America it is turn on another ball game or watch Michael Jackson or watch the stiniking, baby killing, abortion loving, Obama loving, (faux) fighting Irish frauds of Notre Dame. We saw that in 2000 and also with Franken. In 2000, the GOP was a little slow but woke up quickly and fought back. They were not ready in Minnesota and got screwed.
