You should read the whole interview at NY Times. The WND quotes are rather misleading. She goes on to say she realized her perception(about Roe v Wade) was wrong.

I read it. So then by extension she was vigorously opposed to it until 1980 when the light bulb finally flickered?

Not misleading at all. The excerpts above clearly state this.

The point is she had this perception and still supported abortion prior to the 1980 Harris ruling.
