Opposition Leader Returns to Lead Protests in Iran

A key leader of the 1999 student uprising that shook the Islamist regime in Iran returned to Iran clandestinely this week, and plans to lead a nationwide protest on Thursday.

Roozbeh Farahanipour, 37, was jailed for several months in 1999 for his role in the protests and was tortured extensively. But that hasn’t deterred him from going to back to his homeland.

“These are momentous times,” he told Newsmax shortly before leaving the U.S. for his secret journey to Iran. “After 10 years, I am fulfilling my dream.”

The postelection protests of the past several weeks “have already succeeded in crippling half of the regime,” he said. “They can no longer work together, no longer trust each other. Our job is to help cripple the other half as well.”

If Farahanipour can successfully elude Iran’s secret police, Thursday’s protests will be the first time that a political figure who has gone into exile has ever returned to lead a demonstration against the Islamic regime.

Farahanipour, who founded the Marze Por Gohar (Glorious Frontiers Party) in 1998, wants to see a secular, democratic government emerge from the current turmoil in Iran.

“This Thursday is my demonstration,” he said. “It is not Mousavi’s event. It is the 10th anniversary of the 1999 student uprising.”

I fear, that if he goes out in public, where the padaran can get to him...He’ll be dead by Sunday.

I surely hope he is doing some serious organising bejhind the scenes first, and in a way where he xcannot reveal those he organises, to carry on after he’s been arrested again.

This all sounds nice but, if he gets caught, he’s toast.

I agree. Even though he is Iranian, who wants his causes for Iranians. The Murdering Mullahs, and Khamenei’s son, will surely accuse him of being and “enemy agent and spy”. Not matter what country they blame, the US, the UK, or whatever country he’s been in exile to. They’ll try him and execute him if they can grab him.

What Roozbeh Farahanipour needs to realise,is that the Iranian people don’t need any more new martyrs, what they need to do, is make martyrs of the Hardliner tyrants, those of the Guard who would kill the Iranian people, and all the Basiji dogs, who should have their own clubs. chains. razor knives, and grenades against them..After they have been captured.

Did anyone see the CNN report at about 10 AM on the protests in Iran? Said to be large, but only Twitter is getting out.

Interesting aside, the CNN anchor ended his report by saying that none of these demonstrations were being reported by the Iranian media. He made it sound like an indictment of the mullahocracy, which it should be. But given the lack of reporting of the July 4 Tea Parties by the state run media here in America why would CNN feel the mullahs were doing anything wrong.
