Sounds to me like the Day Camp was playing a big ACORN on the private swim club.

The private swim club most likey did not realize the number of unattended kids would be showing up at once.

See how it works? Now the Swim Club is in trouble and most likely will be shut down or penalized.

This is going to keep happening. The shakedown continues.

Swim clubs are easy places for accidents to happen. All over the place are warning signs of one kind or another: No Running! No Diving! Add a swarm of excited kids to the mix and I have a feeling there was considerable anxiety about lawsuits.

“White Ethnic” is often a euphemism for “white trash” around here.

You have more faith in some folks that I do.

When someone is claiming one group of people have a right to another group of peoples private property and claim to be conservatives while making such arguments, and attack those who dare to point out the first ammendments freedom to association and fundamental right to own property. I see no other conclusion, assuming they are adults, than they have been dumbed down horrificly by whatever education they were subjected to growing up.

Those are fundamental principles, they are fringe ideas or judicial interpretations, but fundamental principles. Every person should who’s had any sort of reasonable education should know and understand these by the age of 12 at the latest. The only way you can reach adulthood without recognizing these is to be left completely ignorant of your national heritage or to have been subjected to horrific educational malpractice.

The "Wiggahs" are (censored) hysterical! Its great to see what happens when they encounter the REAL thing (as I have at the Staten Island Mall a few years back).

"It’s a private club"

Not for long, this club is finished if there is only a kernal of truth to the story. I'd feel sorry for them, if they were not so stupid, but they are going to sacrificed to appease PCism. No if and or buts.

You should see what happens when the “handguns in company parking lots” issue comes up.

There are hundreds (thousands) who believe that they have a right to bring a handgun onto someone else’s property, and state legislatures are starting to back them up.

The basic fact of the matter is that if they are letting white kids in to swim but not black kids, then they are repugnant and do not deserve to draw a paycheck. Hopefully, there’s a way to get them out of their positions. If this story is true, I hope the people in charge eventually see the error of their ways. Racism is disgusting.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

That is so we don’t pick and choose. Note that what congress cannot abridge is the right to peaceably assemble. That is not that same as your claim of free association. There are not only conceptual differences but legal differences as well.

“You nor the government, nor anyone else has any right to tell private individuals who they can or cannot associate for whatever reason they decide.” Fundamentally wrong. IF you are plotting to overthrow the government, the government not only can but will limit your “right” to associate. The right is not absolute -— just as you maynot shout fire in a crowded theater.

Liberty, freedom of the individual comes from our Creator. Man’s governments tend to want to strip us of those gifts. With that I will agree. But the COnstitution is not an absolutist document. It does not require us to commit suicide as a society in order to protect it.

You have claimed that all of liberty and all of Western Civilization is founded on private property rights and the right of free association. I would suggest that documents such as the Magna Carta espouse the importance of the individual ahead of the state. Prior to that time the king or that state was supreme. Freedom is a God given right. Protect it while you have it.

And your thinking is still cloudy

The poster painted in the brush of absolutism for the rights in the Constitution. Unfortunately, the kind of thinking behind that is exactly the type of thing that gets conservatives labelled as nutters. I value my freedom and liberty more than most I know. I understand it and I work to keep it. But I also know that my rights come from God not the government.

“People should have the right to freedom of association, FOR ANY REASON AT ALL.”

Your words not mine. Do not make an absolutist statement and then claim that it isn’t what you meant.

Since freedom is given by God, I guess you don’t get to select who may or may not have it. Governments on the other hand don’t give a rat’s behind and will do everything they can to minimize your individual liberty. With that we can both agree.

I have not called for the suppression of any group or cause. When the next Islamist attack comes, what will your response be? The Constitution is not a suicide pact. We do not have to surrender the country in order to protect someone’s right to ‘free speech’.

We don't remove people's tongues upon entering a theater, in the effort to prevent them from yelling "fire." What if the theater were actually on fire?

We do not, or rather should not, preempt rights because they may be misused.

I think the most likely thing is that they had a bunch of members who were quite uncomfortable hanging around black people, and when those members complained about the black kids and threatened to quit, the club decided to pull the contract.

And I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the members who complained were liberals, although frankly there are still a lot of racists of all colors and political persuasions, and there always will be, because it is human nature to like being with people who are “like” you, and dislike being with people who are “dissimilar”.

"The Valley Swim Club is a private club that advertises open membership"

Not really a "private club" if it has an "open" membership. A real priviate club, invites people to join and does not have an "open" membership. Open membership means anyone that can afford the membership fee is free to join. In other words it is a PUBLIC club with a membership fee. They are screwed.

***On numbers alone, however, most clubs would have had a lot of trouble with this influx (lifeguarding, toilets, seating, noise levels, and even pool chemistry are affected by numbers of kids in the pool).***

Exactly.

When the numbers get too big, all kinds of bad things can happen.

The pool I managed was almost 150,000 gallons, which is very large. Our maximum capacity was 75 in the pool with a 50/50 CHILD TO ADULT RATIO. And for that number we had to have 8 lifeguards.

When we had daycares, the max was 25 kids in the pool, and we still had 8 lifeguards.

Sounds like they were maxed out in every way.

“When a Cub Scout group showed up with 75!! kids instead of the 25 they contracted for-—I made them rotate the kids in the pool. That’s probably what happened.”

Maybe. Maybe not. I think probably the management fouled up here, big time. Wanted the $1900 and failed to project what would happen when the kids from the daycamp actually showed up.

I have belonged to the local swim club for many years. Two kids who were on the swim team are now lifeguards. So I have some informed perspective.

There is NO CHANCE that 60 kids from a daycamp arriving together would not disrupt the pool and upset the regular members. That’s a lot of kids! And, by definition, they are not there with their parents. Irrespective of skin color, they are going to make noise and run around and not know all the rules.

That is normal and expected. Should have been anticipated. Throw in the race factor, and management created a mess.
