LOL...when I read your Newspeak-English translation table, I was struck at how similar it was to Ann Coulter’s reference table, although yours is much more gentlemanly!

LOL! Alright, alright...it just goes to show that I'm a lousy gambler...but hey anyone that knows me can tell you that...(what'd I owe ya, a cup of coffee...a beer...YOU GOT IT!)

At least he didn’t descend into a baseball metaphor...

Actually the best article I ever read by Will waa a baseball article. IIRC it was on the last page of a TIME MAGAZINE...maybe 20-25 years ago. I spent about 25 seasons playing and coaching (youth baseball) and just returned from my grandson's game a couple of hours ago. Thanks to you both for great commentary. IOU.

... particularly the overweening confidence by liberals that they can grab the controls of the machinery of government, war, race relations or whatever you can think of, and manipulate them to get a desired result.

This is the weakness of liberalism, and is why they are inclined towards utopianism, emotionalism and socialism.

Your analysis applies to the ones Lenin called useful idiots but not to the hard core leaders. The leaders manipulate the useful idiots to gain and maintain power, period!

In that effort they use all the psychological tools available and use them without regard to morality or consequences. They honor the lie and traitors. They proudly proclaim that traitors against a free country are heroes of the Revolution which crushed it. Traitor today, Hero tomorrow.

Part of that is proclaiming high-sounding moral positions that are in keeping with our history and traditions. They form organizations and propose legislation which are the opposite of what they seems. Examples are the ACLU and the Civil Rights Act.

They use our freedoms to destroy them. They insist on freedom for themselves while denying it to others. They foment class warfare, supposedly a natural condition of man, according to them. Since it is not natural they create it with groups like NOW, NAACP, LULAC, etc. Chaos and confusion are necessary for them to get and keep power.

The Global Warming legislation will give them complete control of all business activity. Health Care legislation will allow them to control each individual. Either, and certainly both, will bankrupt this country. That is their desire.

What is natural is Free Enterprise, as its name rightly proclaims. Communism/Socialism is contrary to human nature and that is the reason collectivism doesn't work. When the citizens react naturally by not doing as expected by the collectivists, force must be applied to make them conform.

Collectivism always transforms from the Utopia as first presented and maybe desired into Stalinism for that very reason. The fragility of their philosophy demands the silencing of all other opinions and the elimination of other options. This is sometimes gruesome and horrible but it is always unpleasant. The torture they scream against will be gladly and aggressively used by them if they gain complete power.

In short they are liars who have mastered the art of misdirection. You are arguing against the misdirection rather than exposing the man behind the curtain.

I also find myself having to continuously go back and re-read Will. Sometimes it is worth the effort but mostly not. Unfortunately for me, the same is true of C.S. Lewis.

Very good analysis, but the truth is that even the non-useful idiots really do think they can control things by controlling everything.

The useful idiots ARE tools to be used, and I would add “Tratiors today, Heroes tomorrow, Traitors the day after that...”

Once done with them, they are treated like everyone else.

As people are dragged off to the gulag, get their heads in a noose or have the barrel of the gun placed to the back of their neck, they protest “But I’m one of you! I believe! I helped make all this happen!”

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn wrote in his book “The Gulag Archipelago” how more than a few of the people he met in his journey through there cried when Stalin died.

I often think that liberalism is a mental illness.
