WASHINGTON -- Moving to broaden the scope of the health care overhaul, President Barack Obama threw his support Tuesday behind creation of a program to help families struggling with burdensome costs of long-term care.

The voluntary insurance program - sponsored by Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass. - would pay a modest daily cash benefit of at least $50 that people could use for a range of in-home services or nursing home expenses.

$ 50 wouldn’t even pay Visiting Nurse fees.

Aflac, along with any number of private insurers, have a wide variety of products available to anyone who wants it.

$50 a day, every day, is $18,250 a year. And note that it is “at least $50 a day” so it could be more. This is not chump change.

The voluntary insurance program...there are already plenty of voluntary plans available through private insurers like John Hancock Insurance - join at about 60 and you can get (approximately) a program which will pay $100 per day for indefinite institutional or home care, with an additional $5 per day added for each year the plan is in effect, for about $1400 per year - wonder how much cheaper the voluntary government plan will be......

Please save us from all this government "help"!

Private policies are indeed available - with riders to adjust for inflation. Unfortunately, I expect this will become very important. $50/day doesn't pay for much care today, and with the outlook for future inflation, it's even more limited.

These jerks can’t even fix the VA system, and Vets earned it, not like the lame and lazy who show up at hospitals broke with a cell phone wanting care. 37 years in health care and these jerks (that’s right I said Jerks) think they know how to fix health care.

Heres an easy one how about the govt fix amtrak first. Hell fix something before they want us to believe they can fix health care.

Long care care.....hahaahhaha

Oh heres one: Who is gonna pay for it??????????????

Waiting for an answer.......

Fifty a day would not pay for much, but it might pay for the drugs to numb the pain from all the broken parts Obama won’t let you get fixed because what’s the point since you are going to die soon anyway.

Would that $50 a day support Obama’s crack habit?

It certainly won’t be Sen. Kennedy volunteering any of his own money. I still cannot fathom how people get a reputation for being compassionate and generous, when they are giving away somebody else’s money. It’s infuriating. That greedy, sleazy old hypocrite!

I wonder how he will observe the 40th anniversary of when he let a young girl die? It’s coming up on July 18.
