For centuries, workers from many parts of the globe have been coming to the US to find work and support themselves.
Many migrant workers have families back in their native countries who depend on them for remittances.
But for some, a difficult economic climate, triggered by a collapse in the housing market, is causing the dream to evaporate.
The worst US recession in decades has eliminated job opportunities for many immigrants, slowing the flow of money back home down to a trickle.
That's especially true of the traditionally high-paying construction industry, often manned by Mexican workers.

A great many of the Mexican workers are not immigrants. They are not moving here to melt in and be law abiding citizens. They are migrants, moving where ever they can to make a buck, legal or illegal.

Declare our undying love for them as they are gathered up and sent home. Tell them we recognize that they have proper relations with their families, are kind to their dog, but they must go. Kiss them on both cheeks just before they cross the border to show our sincere feelings.

independent media True statement. Some of these "migrants" used Government assistance to buy homes to be resold during the boom market for profit. Now that the market is down, they are walking away from these contracts by the hundreds. They will once again buy into the market using future Government programs when the market is more favorable. Meanwhile the American taxpayer is left holding their bad paper.

You-said-it bump.
They don’t have any interest at heart but their own. If they’re mad, it’s because their gravy train stopped a few stations short.

The worst US recession in decades has eliminated job opportunities for many immigrants, slowing the flow of money back home down to a trickle. I thought the media said we were in a depression before the President was elected. It's only gotten worse since then.

There was a story on FR about six months ago about a mortgage broker that recruited illegal aliens to buy homes. He brokered government guaranteed loans for illegals. The illegals lived in the homes for a couple of months and then split. The homes got repossessed by the bank and the process started all over. The illegals got to live in the houses for free, the banks made money, the broker made millions, the taxpayers got screwed.

Unfortunately, I think this will just motivate the folks back home to come here. If no remitances, then just go to the source and get benefits directly.

Things can’t be all that bad.
I think us and our next door neighbor are the only ones that still cut our own lawns. Everybody else still pay to get it done.

Yep, I’m beginning to think the American taxpayer has less intelligence than a turkey (appropriately first chosen as the national bird).

The wild turkey, Ben Franklin's choice for the national bird, is extremely intelligent just ask anyone that has ever hunted them. The domestic turkey is dumber than a democRAT voter
