SEATTLE - A man was brutally kicked and beaten late Saturday near Lake Union after he asked a group of men to watch their language and then displayed a handgun to them.
Police were called to the scene, a boat moorage dock in the 1800 block of Westlake Avenue North, at about 10:20 p.m.
Investigators learned that an argument had broken out earlier after the man asked the group to to stop using foul language and to keep down the noise, as it was a family type of place.
When the group of suspects became aggressive, the man showed them a holstered handgun and told them he feared for his safety, Seattle police said.
The suspects then rushed the victim and began beating him. One of the suspects was kicking the victim in the head while the victim was lying on the ground, investigators said.
As the man and the suspects struggled with the gun, it discharged. Nothing appeared to be hit.
The gun was kicked into water about 40 feet deep, so it was not immediately recovered.
The victim suffered extensive injuries to his face and head, and he was rushed to Harborview Medical Center.
The suspects were arrested and booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.
Bad outcome for the man with the gun. There's a lesson to be learned here.
What a retard. Don’t display it unless you plan to use it.
Don’t pull it out unless you’re going to use it.
The lesson is, the only display of the gun they should’ve seen was the barrel, followed by a muzzle flash?

Those drunken Amish again.
Yes, that's pretty much the lesson to be learned.
I tell my wife this all the time. You never display a gun. You never “brandish” a gun. If you are in enough fear for your life that a gun is on your mind, you should either try to leave or pull it and be prepared to fire it. Never draw a sword unless you can give it blood. Same goes for a gun.
Use it or lose it.
The only proper way to “display” a firearm is muzzle first. I suspect the victim lacked the resolve to use it. In that case he should not have put himself into the situation in the first place. Every fight is a “gun fight” if you are carrying. If he wanted to just “talk” to these jerks he should have left his firearm with someone to watch his back.
Mine stays concealed until I am prepared to fire it, showing it holstered is just plain stupid IMHO, especially to a group of mean drunks.
No sense in escalating an incident until there is no other option.
I realize that there ARE conservative gun owners in Seattle but this was obviously a lib gun owner.
A conservative gun owner would have known better than to display a gun without being ready to use it.
and you always shoot to kill..

Had I been the armed man in this story, the headline would read much differently.
Shoulda called the cops. His life wasn’t in jeopardy, just his ears.
vaudine
Blacks.
It ain’t a magic wand.
ROTFLOL!
My wife says if she catches me ‘fooling around’ she’ll have to explain to the police how, when I was cleaning my Beretta, I managed to shoot myself 15 times.
