The comedian Al Franken will be welcomed by fellow Democrats at a lunch on Capitol Hill today after he has been sworn in as senator, taking the partys Senate vote bank to the magic threshold of 60.
His arrival makes the Democrats the first party in three decades to attain the fabled super majority, allowing them in theory to override Republican filibusters and implement their legislative agenda.
A week after Mr Franken was declared Senator of Minnesota, however, doubts are growing as to how politically useful a super majority will be when the hard bargaining over controversial issues such as healthcare and climate change begins.

You see this is a double edged sword.
There will be certain Democrats who will want a lot of things and frankly they are going to screw each other to get what they want out of it, I’d be surprised if they get much done with a majority of 60, too many primadonna’s, lots of holdouts and lots of fighting.
Secondly, whenever something goes wrong all we have to do is point a finger and go, they have the supermajority, they railroaded it through, don’t look at us. Firmly in their ballcourt.
Thirdly come next year I am sure the american people may decide they really need some sort of check and balance and take it out on the senate and house ala 1994.
Forthly Franken in the Senate makes us laugh and point even more. Minnesota voted in a tax dodging clown who frankly will probably be the biggest waste of space and non-entity in there.
Is there any further proof needed than the election of Al Franken to the Senate, that the entire Democrat Party has devolved into a sick scatological joke?
Exactly right about this being a stolen election.
Which makes republican/conservative turnout an
imperative in the next elections. Make the margin
of victory large enough that it can’t be stolen...
ok, ok....where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Finally though, the moderates (you know those squishy people
who can’t take a stand) are starting to turn. All
those people who ASSURED us that Dear Leader would
govern from the center are now eating their words...
as they begin to panic about their families’ future
and their own retirements.
Franken will be a sock puppet in the US House of Haha for zero’s radical agenda. He knows he can cheat the system so he doesn’t have to worry about being accountable to the voters of MN.
MN voters - when are you going to dump all the cheats and frauds in your state that allowed this clown to become your senator?
At least Springer is respectable!
Perhaps Prince could run for the other Minn. Senate seat or Governor. Lets see....Minnesota voted in Jesse Ventura and Al Franken. I think that Prince has a legitimate chance of winning given the complete gullible foolishness of the Minnesota electorate.
Prediction: Within 6 months, Minnesota will be a laughing stock by all.
Moderates: “Oh, I’m sure he can’t/won’t be the radical leftist that his history shows him to be. Besides, even if he is, I want to be ‘hip’ and vote for the ‘cool black guy’. After all, this country owes it to the ‘African Americans’ for our history of oppression.”
Prediction, more than likely Franken will do something worthy of a resignation within 6 months. You know the idiot cant keep his mouth, trousers or tax dodging activities shut.
Puhleeze.... I guess being in the same "club" as TED (manslaughter drunkard, toad) KENNEDY, (Mr. KKK) Bryd, ("call me senator") Boxer, (mental midget) Feinstein, Patty (holy crap I'm an idiot and in the senate) Murray, and the spineless RINO's Snow, Spectar and Chaffee....
If you're a senator and worried about equal footing, it is similar to a turd feeling inadequate in a toilet bowl.
I agree- we could start a pool —
days until Franken assaults somebody on the Senate floor.

Look, if they can keep Dennis Kuchinich under wraps, they can keep Franken.
And what makes anyone think the media will report it anyway?
Seriously?
This photo must be posted on every thread mentioning this clown.
He will probably be a nightly guest on Matthews’, Ed’s and Olberman’s shows on MSNBC, their favorite new dem senator.
Franken’s a high profile lowlife. He’s not going to help their cause.
i’m dying to see what new bill he sponsors. Lets see, tax relief for adult diapers.
Democrats/leftists try to keep their lowest common denominator core beliefs hidden, true.
Franken is the new face of the Democratic Party. The clowns are in charge.
Franken= third-rate comedian.
Your being quite generous!!!
I can't help but wonder if this quote would sound the same if it were put, equally accurately as; "His arrival returns the Democrats after three decades into ...". This would remind the reader that the GOP has NEVER had a 'Super Majority'.
My point in this is that this crisis is built from YEARS of poor and outright bad decisions. By never having a super majority AND by the presence of RINOs, the GOP frequently danced to the tunes of the like of Ted Kennedy and Chuck Schumer etc. Yes the GOP bears responsibility, particularly with things like the Ted Steven's 'Bridge to Nowhere', but remember that was a time-frame of about 4-6 years in the past years.
Should not this be considered an aberration of the GOP whereas spending appears to come naturally to the Democrats.
