While we are awash in the usual flood of cynical punditry and partisan sharpshooting over Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's resignation, it might pay us to pause and reflect on two critical principles of government in a republic, both of which are affirmed by Gov. Palin's action.
Elected office is a public trust not a personal possession and it should be held only so long as a person is able to carry out the people's business effectively. When there arises a hindrance whether self-made or (as in her case) imposed by others that makes it impossible to fulfill that trust as the people deserve it to be done, it is time to leave period.
No matter how effective a leader may be, nobody in our system is indispensable. If a leader performs well, part of that performance will include grooming and enabling other people to continue the work. The notion of an "irreplaceable leader" is one of the gravest dangers to any republic.
I doubt that we have seen the last of Sarah Palin in national politics, but even if we have, she has performed for us a tremendous service with this single example of what it means to be a real public servant.
Bump!
I just cannot see how she can get past the media, I love Sarah but I think she may have just blown the national ticket.
Pay attention to what she will do soon. Will certainly change your guess.
Now THAT hits the mark EXACTLY on point. It is my considered opinion that Sarah Palin has more character in her little finger than ANY Dem and 95+% of Pubbie politicians PUT TOGETHER. That she’s got the rest of the virtues she has AND she’s good looking besides... icing on the cake. She’ll most likely have my vote for ANY national office she seeks!
I was watching Greta tonight, she was saying how she knows for a fact that the Obama Administration ordered all of the Dems in Alaska to block anything Sarah wanted to get done, this is who we are up against. We have to fight back, this is what liberals do, they are following Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals
That would not be terribly surprising, given the nature of the slugs we’re dealing with... and now I may owe an apology to slugs everywhere!
Obama is scared of Sarah. Interesting.
Obama is obsessed with Sarah, along with Axelrod and Soros, according to Greta, the second Sarah called Obama a socialist they decided to do whatever it takes to bring her down. They were shocked someone would actually have the guts to call Obama what he is, it’s too bad McCain didn’t have the kind of guts Sarah had, perhaps she would be in the White House right now instead of the turd we have now
She’ll get around them the same way Ronald Reagan did, by stumping across America on the rubber chicken circuit and speaking to people directly.
The only difference is that Reagan did it before running for national office and that is why the press often referred to him as the Teflon President. Because nothing they flung would stick.... because most of America already felt they knew him and had a relationship with him. They simply discounted the press accounts because it didn’t square with their personal experience and perception.
Palin has to do it after the fact, but the public is already irritated by the press (and a good many independants that voted for Obama are already blaming the press for their buyer’s remorse) and fully ready to discount them on Palin as a result.
Solid, I hope so.
And dcwusmc We all know she has great character, is a strong Christian, great looks, ect. But the media is so one sided, and if people do not stop getting their news from ABC, MSNBC and all of them will they vote the right way?
Personally I think Obama will cause so much damage, anyone who runs against him will crush him.
I am turning 18 two months before the POTUS election and If she is running she will get my vote!
Yeah, I think that all the crap they are talking about her (and all the Obama love) will blow up in their faces.
It is just disturbing to see the One do many of the exact same things Hitler did, in Germany. Only, we are Americans, and we love our freedom.
As Sarah describes it “a servant’s heart”.
Sarah will have to let the current set of meritless lawsuits against her play itself out in court (or be withdrawn by shamed complainers) before she can speak truth to MSM power. That could take a year or so.
The fact that Alaskan law even has such a loophole for loon attacks on a governor is something that will take a while for people to grasp. One hopes that her successor will take the moose by the horns and get an amendment passed to the Alaska constitution that will close this mischief alley for good.
" The emperor marched in the procession under the beautiful canopy, and all who saw him in the street and out of the windows exclaimed: Indeed, the emperors new suit is incomparable! What a long train he has! How well it fits him! Nobody wished to let others know he saw nothing, for then he would have been unfit for his office or too stupid. Never emperors clothes were more admired. But he has nothing on at all, said a little child at last. Good heavens! listen to the voice of an innocent child, said the father, and one whispered to the other what the child had said. But he has nothing on at all, cried at last the whole people. That made a deep impression upon the emperor, for it seemed to him that they were right; but he thought to himself, Now I must bear up to the end. And the chamberlains walked with still greater dignity, as if they carried the train which did not exist."
Yeah she will, and as she has no dirt on her she will overcome.
I think you do!
I've seen the website of that "Celtic Diva" were-slug that was instigating one of the "seek a million e-mails" so-called "complaints" against Palin. Real piece of work.
She was demanding wads and wads of official state e-mail correspondence from Palin's state administrators. Then she whined when they kicked back and tried to make it less easy and more expensive for her and her fellow-venturers.
It was a fishing expedition in the state admin files, is what it was.
AND in this case, the Emperor is Obama and it isn’t just clothes...
it’s everything about the man...
and there is NOTHING AT ALL...
just a couple of teleprompters..
