I contrast what Gov. Sarah Palin did to what Sanford has not done. Basically, Sanford want to live on the government dime, knowing full well that he is a lame duck in every sense of the word.

I was rooting for him during his fight against the porkulus, but ever since his adultery came to light he has been exhibiting behavior consistent with a rat. Stay in power no matter the cost.

The man is a creep and an embarrassment to his state and party.

And to make matters worse, he cannot keep his mouth shut.

He go very lucky with Jackson kicking off right after he went public with his affair with the South American lady and then he continues to talk by telling the world that his Argentinean woman is is soul mate.

And he also elected to have his affair in South America on Father’s Day!

After all of that his wife could have shot him in the head and the jury would have let her walk.

This is why I love Free Republic. We Conservatives hold ALL elected officials to a high standard. When the fail to live up to and betray the public trust, it we call them on it.

For a long time Mark Sanford had alot of support here at FR. But now that he betrayed the vows of his marriage, betrayed the people of his state by using taxpayer money to fund his South American “booty calls” and has exhibited all around strange behavior, we here have called him on it and no longer hold him up him as a potential leader of our cause.

Now if Mark Sanford was a Democrat, all those morons at the DU, Daily Kos and Huffington Post who are slamming Sanford would be defending him up and down, saying it was “just sex” and it’s “his personal business” and they would still be looking to him as a futre President.

Keep up the good work FReepers. Let’s keep fighting to root out all political scum, no matter what party they belong to.

I wish that were completely true however, there were and are Freepers that did and will defend David Vitter.

I support his staying so long as he continues to govern as he has. His Lieutenant is no Sean Parnell, he’s a creepy RINO (think Graham or Crist) who will cause us problems even worse than Sanford. If Mike Campbell had ended up as Lt Governor, I’d have been more willing to ask him to step down. But he still hasn’t done anything illegal, just something dumb.

Hey, I wish all our people were as pure as the virgin snow, but we have to deal with the reality. If it’s a choice between a liberal RINO with a perfect family life supporting the False Messiah’s agenda vs. someone who hasn’t demonstrated the best judgment on keeping their zipper zipped but votes in a spectacular Conservative fashion, there’s no contest here. Vitter has no opponent that votes as well as he, and we can’t afford to lose a single Senate seat.

I prefer to be consistent. When a liberal Democrat governor was busted with a prostitute, I called for his resignation and when a conservative GOP senator is busted with a prostitute, I called for his resignation.

If I thought otherwise, I would be a hypocrite.

For the good of his state...this guy should resign. He’ll see how fast that soulmate of his stays around. She’s probably already trying to figure out how to tell him to buzz off.

That’s your prerogative. Unfortunately, when the country is at stake, sometimes a resignation can end up far worse for us than if they stay, and we can’t take such a risk. I loathe what they’ve done, but when the country is over a barrel...

I agree. The guy is just too creepy.

And flaky.

I think he could have a great career writing romance novels for Harlequin.

The killer for me was his maudlin remark about his soul mate and then saying he was TRYING to fall back in love with his wife. For that Jenny could have/should have hung him out to dry.

Sorry to say--the man was just having a mid life crisis and a last fling while the hormones can still rev up to the red hot lust meter. He, by his own words, had been working up to it with other women, "but not crossing the line"before.

UGH! I know much more than I ever wanted to know about Sanford's love life. The man has proven himself to be a jerk in the fidelity department.

Sanford is still one of the best fiscal conservatives we have out there. I don’t think this scandal diminishes him one bit. Remember that the state cleared him of any wrongdoing or using taxpayer funds, so your “live on the government dime” comment was pointless. Maybe he just had a mid-life crisis. Lots of men go through this. I’m not saying he should be supported if he runs for President, but he would make a great policy adviser or cabinet secretary.
