HOBBS, N.M. (AP) - Steve Pearce of Hobbs, who represented New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District for three terms, wants the job again.
Pearce announced Monday he is signing paperwork to seek the Republican nomination for the seat he gave up last year to run for the U.S. Senate.
Pearce did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.
Last week, he said that he was trying to decide whether to run for governor or Congress, but would do what was best for the Republican Party.
Pearce lost in November to Democrat Tom Udall to fill the seat being vacated by longtime Sen. Pete Domenici.
Democrat Harry Teague succeeded Pearce in the southern New Mexico district.
Pearce, in an e-mail sent by People for Pearce, says he is disappointed in Teague's voting record in his first six months in office.
I still don’t understand how that moron Teague won the race. You hear him talk and you swear the guy is drunk.
I agree. That alone makes him prime candidate for Speaker of the House if Pelosi steps down.
Or a replacement for Gibbs.
wait a minute..”do what is best for the republican party” ? WHAT? how about do what is best for the voters who elect your sorry asses? since when is party more important than constituents? and why? when are we the people going to put a stop to this horsesh!t?
Pearce going for his old House seat.
Ed Tinsley was a fiasco. What’s shocking is that Teague won by a wider margin in the most GOP district in the state than Heinrich did in ABQ’s NM-1 (although Darren White was a better candidate). If Pearce can’t take back this seat, we could be shut out until Teague retires. It’s insane that NM has an all-rodent delegation (and ditto with AZ having a majority Dem delegation, with McCain having zero coattails, less than useless).
If you have ten minutes, or a minimum of three, your question will be answered by an American in Hobbs, NM.
I think you will appreciate his message. And not a teleprompter in sight.

Excellent news. The GOP candidate must have been weak last time. He ran behind McCain.
